Agreed. I have traceable family there from about 1640 and earlier. Always wanted to go and touch base and do some looking around. Same for Scotland and Ireland. But now? Not so sure :(
Scotland is a wonderful country with great outdoors activities. I highly recommend it. I’ve been 6 times and can’t wait to go back.

Another reason to avoid UK for retirement.
Year that was the police’s mistake they were told not to give him a license and were also asked to take the guns away before the incident. But it us firearm owners that get smeared! Seen it in Australia after Port Arthur and NZ after Christchurch! The NZ one was truly the cops fault as they did not follow the licensing procedures!
But we aren’t going quietly!

I had the same concern when we made a two week trip through Ireland and Scotland last September; however, I was pleasantly surprised to not feel "surrounded" the likes of which I've seen on the TV out of London. Perhaps it was because we stuck to the tourist spots(?).
my wife and I spent 2 weeks in Scotland last year. She had geaneology to follow and we saw a bunch of countryside. Scotland seemed calm to me, even in Edinbough seemed safe and secure. However, the cab drivers told us what areas to avoid when the wife's cousins weren't there.

Almost like a mafia move to get a cut on a legitimate business.

It could be viewed through a different lens as well. Though not engaged in a declared war. We are definitely neck deep in a war of technology against bad actors that do not follow our Marquess of Queensberry rules.

  • War Production Board (WPB): During WWII, the WPB was established with significant powers to regulate industrial output, prioritize resources, and allocate materials for the war effort. It ensured factories received necessary materials and could even prohibit non-essential production, according to Wikipedia.
  • Defense Production Act (DPA):Enacted during the Korean War, the DPA grants the President authority to prioritize and compel businesses to accept contracts for materials and services deemed vital to national defense. It also includes provisions to deter hoarding and may involve financial incentives to expand production of critical goods.
  • Restrictions on Exports and Sales:Historical examples demonstrate government intervention to restrict exports of sensitive technology or goods during wartime, as seen with pressure on Boeing to not sell advanced airliners to Japan before WWII.
  • Seizure of Facilities: Under the authority of presidential proclamations, the government could even seize plants that were deemed to be hindering war production efforts due to bottlenecks or delays.
  • Laws Against Profiteering: Congress has enacted laws to penalize profiteering during wartime, as evidenced by legislation in 1944, 1985, and 2007. This was a response to practices like hoarding, black-market activities, or substandard goods being supplied to the military.
In essence, while the US government generally prefers to work with the private sector through contracts and incentives during wartime, it has shown willingness to exert control and take action against companies that prioritize profits over national defense or engage in practices detrimental to the war effort.

A democrat dystopian hell hole. Just like the big east and west coast cities.

Looks like Trump is serious about cleaning up the Democrat dystopian cesspool
As someone who works in DC every day dystopian cesspool is quite and exaggeration. It had crime problems for sure like most major cities and like most they are concentrated in certain areas. Yes it needs work and suffers form terrible elected leadership. But exaggerating the scale of the problem is not conducive to fostering reasonable discussion.

100 murders. 1000 car jackings. Over 15,000 recorded crimes. Judges letting criminals back on the streets. Young criminals not being convicted

Doesn't sound like an over exaggeration.

I’m not saying it is crime free I specifically said it has poor leadership and work to do. I’m saying as someone who walks the streets every day dystopian cesspool is an exaggeration. I feel much less safe in any number of other US cities.

Like many cities it is very localized. I know in Dallas half the murders occur in 3 zip codes. DC is similar.

Trust me I hate DC and that I have to live there so I’m not defending it. I just get tired of the over exaggeration by people on both sides of any issue.

I agree with you but there is plenty of ammunition for the cesspool crowd as it's been crime ridden and under poor leadership for so long.

Like in 1990 when the Mayor(Marion Barry) was caught on camera by the FBI smoking crack with a hooker .... Then got reelected!

Can someone tell me what exactly the national guard is going to do in DC? To clean up crime, don’t these crimes need to be reported and investigated (ensuring the protection of rights)? Or are they just going street to street and rounding up anyone who doesn’t look right?

They are going to round up the criminal element, and ship them off to the Gulag.

What is that dipshit going to do? Go to Texas and drag all the ex-corruptifirnicators back? Guess he's not bright enough to realize that congressional seats are assigned by population.
Newsom is threatening a special election for redistricting to counter the 5 seats that Texas is trying to gain
An election that would cost an estimated $100m

They're basically taking the roll of parents by keeping unmonitored and armed youth from roaming around carjacking, robbing and killing..... much of DC's issues boil down to piss poor parenting and systemic reliance of government subsidies for generations of poor life decisions.

This would be sorted out quickly if DC residents could carry handguns legally..... without being politically connected.

But how exactly are they going to enforce it? Standing in every corner and acting as a deterrent, or active participation that may or may not follow established laws and rights? I’m assuming they are working on their own authority, and not under the DC police force. And these are actually questions.
