“Manners maketh man”

On every forum there are rooting swine, and the ancient observation that one should “never wrestle with a pig because he enjoys it, and you end up covered in mud” is worth remembering. I’ve learned over time that I’m much better off using the ignore button than arguing with mental eight year olds.
I like the pig analogy or this one, "I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man".

I follow a couple rules.

Posting hunting reports:
-Be factual, try not exaggerate, but provide details and pictures. Respond respectfully when asked questions about the hunt.

Replying to others:
-Find something good in their post to complement or provide polite, helpful, constructive criticism if they are asking for it and explain why. Most of my replies are based on first hand experience.

Exceptions: New members that are buying or selling something. I try to politely guide them through the process until I determine they are not a scammer. If they appear to be scammers, the gloves may come off.

There are a lot of opinions that are not based on any first hand experience and everyone knows opinions are like a-holes… Everyone has one, some are coming from them!

In general: Try not to be a wormy, mealy mouthed, troll! And, if that’s who you are, try to figure out what ever caused you to be that way, and gets some goddamned help…

Manners are one thing, but virtue signaling seems to becoming more prevalent on some of the hunting forums, this one included.

Did you just repeat yourself?
@SaintPanzer
No I didn't repeat my self mate.
There are a lot of idiots that don't own a 243 or even know what a firearm is. Just go for a drive in peak hour traffic and you will encounter a lot of idiots. Go to a big box stores store when they are having a big special sale and watch the stupidity, rudeness and arrogance of some people.
So the 2 while similar and display similar traits are different.
At least 243 owners can be educated about the error of owing one. Other idiots you just can't help no matter what.

A lot of 243 owners are genuinely nice people and intelligent that have been led astray by bullshit advertising that unfortunately they believed. These people tho misguided can be helped simply by showing them something that does the job better and still is pleasant to shoot.
Like a nice 25 cal or dare I say it a 6.5.

I was raised to believe that manners, etiquette, and decorum are more valuable than education, wealth, status, power or any combination of these.

I have tried to live accordingly. I haven’t been able to do it perfectly, but it is certainly a daily aspiration.

I’ve been a part of this forum for a little over a year now, and find it overwhelmingly polite and hospitable.

However, I have noticed enough rude and ill mannered behavior, perhaps even increasingly over the past year, that I wanted to write this post.

The motivation for most of the posts on here are to share with other enthusiasts the excitement of an opportunity, a trip, or a purchase. Or, to gain knowledge from or share knowledge with other like-minded individuals. In general, the motivations are all positive.

Notwithstanding, there are some who go out of their way to read about things they don’t like or that don’t interest them and then spend energy and time to criticize or attack the thing they don’t like rather than moving onto things they do like.

I have never understood the rationale behind spending energy to do this. It seems more logical for me to avoid something I don’t like or am not interested in. I don’t find any motivation in spending my most valuable and depreciating asset, time, on something I don’t like.

But it is clear that some people do. I’m sure that there are a myriad of psychological explanations for this kind of behavior, but to my untrained mind, it is simply juvenile.

“Manners maketh man”, and in my eyes, those who are rude and ill mannered are certainly not men.

For all of us who comment on posts here, please take a moment to consider the intent behind your comment before making it. If the intent is just to criticize or belittle something that is meaningful to another person, consider redirecting that negative energy elsewhere rather than on this forum.
CAN I GET AN "AMEN"!

Here's a difficult--I dare say existential--ethical question, though.

What's ultimately worse: to use rudeness to awaken a 6.5 Creedmoor fanatic from his delusion, or to be polite and enable him in his madness? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I can and do subscribe to your words @franzfmdavis . Well said.

@Tom Leoni
You can be politely rude
There's an art to telling people they are dickheads and have them think they said it themselves. It's quite funny to watch and not laugh.

Use some tact: The art of telling someone to go hell and have them look forward to the trip.

Before I click "post" I reread what I wrote to make sure it's true, nonoffensive, spelled and punctuated correctly and will stand up to scrutiny. There is always someone who will call you on a falsehood and an attempt to cover it up just leads to more trouble (note cnn).

I’m not certain if this directed toward me, but if so, I apologize for any unintended hint of virtue signaling.

I had been annoyed by a reaction I had received on another post and instead of remaining annoyed I decided to address it proactively in this post.

Nope. Always good to get an occasional reminder. Getting too old to get assed up about much anymore and skin has gotten pretty thick. People are going to be people though.

This thread reminds me:
“Dictum Meum Pactum” – My Word Is My Bond. The motto of the London Stock Exchange.
Quite a few of the old timers in Africa followed this, even to their own detriment. Seems like this is lost today, really sad!

I rent when a man's word was his bond and a handshake was his word .

I read an older thread that mentioned you having some 9.3x64 brass. Do you still have some? I am looking for 100 pcs, maybe 200.
