Politics

It is interesting to me that for the past 8 plus years those with TDS have developed a culture of continually, blindly and predictably accusing those on the right of being weak-minded MAGA conspiracy theorists while developing a dedicated dependency upon social media sources like Reddit for information. I think a dose of healthy skepticism would be prudent in the age of AI/CGI.

Reddit is a cesspool. I am not a member but I will find decent nuggets of info on there (like YouTube) on mechanical projects, house projects, questions, etc. But the derangement syndrome is rampant.

NJ has become the worst. It's shame. I love this state. It's been my home my whole life. I can't stand the cost of living and the politics, though. NJ.com doesn't even report news any more. It's severely liberal-left slanted TDS hit pieces.

You clearly know nothing of neither gunsmithing and geographics.

An H&H rebarrel of an express is nearly worthless. A Ferlach is 1/3rd of worthless. I don’t think you can ascribe a tariff or exchange rate as root cause of your malady.

When you take an undesirable and common caliber and attempt to restore it, you don’t multiply its worth. Put another way, the price you pay H&H or Ferlach to restore the finest gun ever made or the worst ever made is the same. The fact yours isn’t the best isn’t indicative of the global economy.
I couldn`t care less about "multiply its worth". I spend my money on what I wish. Money can only be spend here on earth while we are here.

In regards to malady. How do you see your self?.

You may have missed my points. A repair of an H&H by anyone other than H&H diminishes a weapon's value. The cost of a repair to an express rifle as you describe (rebarreling) will likely exceed the total value of the weapon in either case whether you use H&H or you use someone in Ferlach.

For the price of a rebarrel job on a black powder express, you can probably buy two pristine black powder expresses.

That was my point. There are many fine weapons out there that simply cannot be repaired practically because the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Best grade black powder express rifles are usually in that camp.

I haven`t missed any points. The rifle in question is a €9000 gun and rebarrel job is €12000 job.

I never expressed my points which I will do now!. The original caliber 577/500 magnum is a stupid caliber with getting high quality brass. Getting new barrels in .500 3" gives my acess to over 600 pcs of new Norma brass(my own storage). I can shoot the hardest bullets available. I can develop my own regulating load. I have several bulletmolds in .500cal and a friend who can make me solid copperbullets if needed. With copperbullets I can use it here in Denmark(lead ban) for hunting. Leadbullets on shootingranges, abroad and backyard. In regards to money. The rifle will go down the line and for me its just to have to chance to shoot it until I am not here. I see it as investment in pleasure. The original barrels will be left as they are. I have another hammergun in .500ex for blackpowder shooting.

It's a nice gun, a H&H Dominion made by WC Scott. The jones rotary underlever is an excellent design and it can handle fierce recoil. I'm not sure that the action will endure 500NE recoil and I'm not sure if the barrels will be overweight or not because the proposed cartridge will result in thicker barrels at the breech.

Obviously your money and your desires. If it were me I'd enjoy what it is and add a purpose built 500NE to your lineup as well.

My mistake

It is still there

However my comment about the British Stasi is still relevant
In previous posts I shared the story of 6 policemen showing up to a British home to arrest a couple for making comments on a whatsapp conversion regarding their childs school administration; after being release from jail the investigating detective said their was no reason for them to be charged.

Now you have elderly people being cautioned by the police for asking someone to "speak clearly" to a partially deaf man; it was reported that he said "speak english" which would have been a hate crime.

I don't think Britain will be able to recover and is now circling the drain with finality. Why so pessimistic? It is one thing to have corrupt, idiotic polticians, everyone has those. It's a very different thing to have law enforcement that will act on those laws.

That's why the USA has hope and the UK does not. Our law enforcement at the State and Local level would largely ignore stupid laws or unfruitful accusations.

Sure there are occasional travesties, but this is generally an American truth. I trust my cops a lot more than I trust my bureaucrats. My English cousins cannot say that any longer which is a travesty.

Its a backaction like a Dominion, but this one is Beesley patent. This gun is a Royal safety hammerless with Purdey head ext.

The UK is screwed. We've seen time and time again that cops in the UK and Australia specifically will enforce these stupid laws yet if a muslim in Hyde park doesn't like someone calling muhammad a pedophile, they can threaten that person's life and get off scott free.

I really wish my British friends had 400 million privately held firearms about now. The irrational overreach cannot be checked by the helpless citizenry.

Agreed!

Yes, we Americans have guns, many guns! Other countries have dictators or politicians very close to them.

Firearms.... Hell their banning knives now- Hence the dreaded "Zombie Knife" collection and compensation scheme.

You are more likely to be a homicide victim in London than you are in NYC.... You'll just get stabbed to death instead of shot.

I hear they are now trying to make it law that you must have a permit to own a sword; and there was an attempt to ban pointed knives....

One gutless twat was quoted: "I mean really, does a kitchen knife need a point?"

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
