Ordered my LAST African Safari rifle at DSC this year...

Sounds like a great experience, looking forward to follow the
Well, I met with Jerome today. After a quick tour of the facilities we spent a couple of hours getting myself measured by mounting a number of doubles, me with white gloves on. One of the doubles I tried on was a very nice .600 NE. Someone is going to be very happy.

Once we nailed down the measurements he brought down a number of blanks. I picked one whose pattern I liked. Also, that blank was large enough that there would be enough wood for both foreends.

We also discussed the regulation of the rifles. It will be with Hornady ammo.

The only thing left is for me to send an image of the engraving I want and measure my Heym’s barrel length when I get back home as I wasn’t 100% sure that it was 26”.

The stock should be ready July 2024, and finished firearm sometime December of 2024. Just in time for the booking of a 2025 lion hunt.
Sounds like a very nice experience, I bet it was quite hard to choose the wood blank?

« Both » fore ends? Did I miss something or are you having two fore ends made for the same rifle, or two rifles? :D

Btw, thanks for taking us along for the process!

The order on first page is for a .500NE along with a .450/400NE barrel, hence the need for two fore ends.
What all bait animals do you plan to shoot with a .500 NE? That's a horse cannon...

I am new to this forum . Jerome Lanoue and Mark Newton were in Australia recently and showed me the Rigby Shikari 500NE double rifle prototype . I fell in love with it and ordered one there and then . Sadly I have a 3 year wait but it will be worth it . They are both gentlemen . For the record mine is a 500NE boxlock , 26 inch barrels, case hardened action , no engraving apart from borders . A plain rifle . Can’t wait to knock over some buff with it .

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing it propped up against a buffalo

Congratulations, @Tanks

What ammunition did you have both sets of barrels regulated for ? Hornady ?

I was there too….but didn’t order a new boxlock. You from Brissie or just up, down or over for the launch?

I did like that 500 (y)

Initially .500 NE and probably every caliber that requires a large action, but for details ask Jerome. Not sure what the cost will be going forward seeing the initial run of 20 sold out at DSC.
I recall they were available in 500, 470 , 450 and 450/400 . All great cartridges .

I wanted to come down to Brisbane for that night but I had just got back from a hunt and couldn't make it

A couple of photos of the prototype Rigby Shikari 500 NE double which was shown in Brisbane in July . I’m not showing more photos to respect Rigby’s plans and also other people who are inadvertently in background . The prototype is spectacular and finished rifles will be even better .

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
