My 550 magnum should be in the next few days weather permits. GETTING brass, bullets, and dies which are also on its way. I have to thank MR. NEAL SHIRLEY the designer for making it happen. Getting brass , bullets, and sketches from him for both 505 gibbs based and 460 wby based.

Not as tight as I like it to be. They were all in a grapefruit/orange size group. At that distance shooting offhand at speed like that I like to keep them to about 2.5".

With the 500 that group will work....with the recoil it definitely not a target rifle...due to lack and price of the ammo I have only tried it once...was 2 rounds in think worked out 3 seconds at bout 25 to 30 yards. I was happy with how it went

That is the only real downside to the real big boomers is the price of ammo makes it really hard to practice enough to be super confident with the functioning of the rifle as well as ones ability to shoot and run the rifle. I got really lucky with my 470, a member on here hooked me up with a great deal on a pile of new brass. I have 60 that I'm using as training brass and about 350 new ones on back up. Bullets are slightly more reasonable for the 470 and I have a pretty good supply of those. Needless to say I been keeping the barrels warm on my double. I don't really have a frame of reference for what "proficient" should be with a double as far as speed and accuracy but I think for me if I can fire a pair and reload and fire another pair in +/- 4 seconds and keep them in that diamond I would think that would be acceptable. What's your thoughts on it?

Yeah sounds reasonable....there are videos that I have seen where they see who is fastest with a bolt or a double....some of the double shooters are incredibly fast at reloading....but I think they have nothing else to do but practice doing it....

Yeah there is a big sport around here called cowboy action shooting where they dress up like cowboys and have a shooting competition with guns from that era. Revolver, lever gun and shotgun. Some of the dudes run double barrel shotguns and their reloads are nuts. I purchased an ammo belt and I have a set of snap caps and I made 6 dummy rounds so I can practice in the house. Its like practicing for a mag change with a pistol or an AR. Back in Iraq I used to stand in front of my cot and practice drawing and firing then doing a mag change. Hundreds and hundreds of mag changes ha ha until it is just like turning on the light switch in your bedroom. No thought just reflex.

One must always remember. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast!

So I have had a reply form the importers in the UK for a Sako 500j. They dont have any and they are a special order. So I have to pay for it upfront (non refundable) and if I dont like it tough.

Im sure many or you would agree that something like a new rifle needs to be handled before committing to. Kinda like a woman I guess. I shall however keep an eye out for a 500j anyhow

Didn’t sako drop the 85. I read they have changed to the 100 series.
