    @ Wheels,
Dumi was my friend and tracker for many a year before I retired from hunting and Wayne took him over. He was never that fond of Elephant hunting but loved to cat hunt. We had many an adventure together and I miss him sorely...not that I have work for his talents anymore!. He was always respectful, quiet and had my back. He's also a dandy bush mechanic!

    Ole Bally,

Neat to know that Dumi worked for you. You obviously taught him well. I got to know others on Wayne's staff better than Dumi due to their English being better than Dumi's. Dumi seemed to be a very pleasant and humble individual. A pleasure to be around.

As I recall, Dumi was Wayne's chief mechanic. At a minimum there was always a flat to fix in the evenings.

You probably caught it, but their is a photo of Dumi shooting my 404 with his back to the camera in the report, along with the photo of all the staff.

I will always be grateful to Dumi for unselfishly asking if he could carry the 404 about an hour into the long follow up on the wounded elephant. At the time he asked to carry it I was fine but by the end of the day I was a whooped puppy.

    @Wheels,
He is a very humble christian character. We worked we played we prayed! A friend indeed and always welcome in my home! We had some very 'hairy' moments and always managed a laugh...albeit nervous ones at times.

    Good to hear.

Hopefully one day I will be back in your neck of the woods and maybe you can share some of those 'hairy' moments. I would certainly enjoy hearing them!:)

Wayne is one guide that I am considering for a leopard hunt in 2017.
I don't know if with all the noise that the death of Cecil had cause, Zimbabwe will start getting complicate place to hunt.
Have you guys heard somenthing about it?

Wayne has a good reputation on leopards. His main leopard area is south of Bulawayo and has larger leopard than mine in this thread. I don't thinks he hunts leopard around the Hwange area. Mine was just a bonus to the elephant hunt.

Zim Parks giving the name and address of a second hunter today, from April ticks me off. You pay an outfitter good money for a legal hunt and next thing you know, Zim Parks is releasing your home address in the USA, probably with no evidence of anything illegal on the hunters part. Seems like uncle Bob's minions are trying to kill the golden goose.

That being said I think things will blow over media wise about Cecil fairly quick. This is whole Cecil thing will probably have an impact on hunters through next season in Zimbabwe. Look for great end of year hunts this year and next. May be a great time to hunt Zim. Truly feel bad for the good guys in Zim.

    All the best.

Unfortunately it did not blow over much. If anything, we now get the anti-hunting morons trying to ban all kinds of trophy hunting everywhere, including here in Canada. Politicians of course oblige these idiots as anything masses stand behind is worth some votes and gives political cretins new ideas on how to become "popular".

Currently our African Hunting shows around Canada were dropped by the venues. Needless to say I will not use those hotels ever again for not standing up to the pressure, but I'm sure they do not care anyway.

As if we did not have bigger issues to worry about. One thing I keep seeing, is the hunters forgetting to mention that even trophy hunts mean that the animals are eaten and used, so it's really just like a meat hunt with the trophy being a bonus rather than killing an animal for its trophy only (as that is what the antis think).

Sorry about the rant. Great hunting story by the way, so thank you!

P.S. I know the post is older, but I have only found it couple days ago. :)

    :cool:Bob,
Thanks for pointing me to your story. It is one of the best hunt reports I have read. I now feel very confident that I made the right decision to take the Elephant hunt with Wayne. I just hope I can be so lucky to get a bonus Leopard. I know I must start working harder at getting into shape for all the walking. I am self employed with a gun shop & spend to much time on my a**.

    Jim,

I hope you have great success.

It is always good to be in the best shape you can be in. I obviously put myself in a position to do a long walk due to poor shooting in this report. That being said, this hunt shouldn't be near as grueling as a hunt in the valley.

Look forward to reading about your report! Hopefully the new administration will abide by CITIES instead of making up rules that appeal to the left, and you will be able to import your ivory.(y)

Finally read the whole report. (I usually just look at pics,) Great write-up, and you can feel what it's like to experience getting a heart's desire. So glad your hunt was smiled upon and I look forward to hearing more at DSC, Bob.
