Can anyone tell me the approximate size of a full zebra rug with the head still on it? Planning out my taxidermy and trying to determine space requirements.

Thanks

Not counting the border... Nose to the tip of the tail is 12 feet. Tail alone is 3 feet. Widest point at the hind legs is 6.5 feet.

EDIT - If you are getting a rug done, I'd skip the 1 inch felt border. I ended up cutting it off about a year later after seeing it do nothing but collect dust. Have the bottom lined with felt but no border for the best presentation.

This is good info. Zebra are on the top of the list for me and my daughter next year.
I just measured our study to make sure a rug would fit.

On another note anyone got the size for a giraffe rug? Considering one of those too.

You better have a HUGE room for a giraffe rug. I believe @Tra3 had one that he used to cover several chairs. Not sure if he had enough left over for a rug. Need to check with him to be sure.

Thanks for the info. I’m actually looking at possibly putting it on the wall but may do floor rug as well.

Here's a photo of mine laid out on the floor. It's 119" tip of the head to the end of the tail, add another four inches for the felt so it's over ten feet long total end to end. Width at the widest point is 68 inches.

As anyone done without the head to cut down on total length

Not sure it would look right without the head...or even the tail. IMO - it'a all or nothing as a rug. Maybe use it as a covering for a piece of furniture?

Here is mine on the wall, I have 14 1/2 ft ceilings. I hope this helps.

Of course Zebras come in all sizes, especially when you consider the different species. Most trophies will be at least ten feet nose to tail. My suggestion if you want a floor rug is eliminate the felt entirely and have it backed with leather - can even be pieced. Will last much longer and not collect dust or curl up on the edges. Good luck collecting one! (or two)

I personally like them without the head. I think they look fine like that.

Trying to picture that. I don’t think I’d like it.

Google it. There's tons of images online. I have nothing against the ones with the head, the stripes on the head are awesome, but I just like it without the head. The ears and face flattened out just isn't appealing to me. To each their own though.

I love zebra rugs, and we have a few of them. But a Pedestal mount zebra is also an excellent presentation. You may want to consider that as well.

Nice brown tones in that zebra.

Depends on whether it's a Hartmann's or Burchell's. Hartmann's are about 20 to 25 per cent bigger than a Burchell's.

Here's a comparison between animal size and rug size. Hope it helps! I'm 5'10" and roughly 210# and my dog is around 60#. Those are 8 foot ceilings as well. I'd recommend a black leather backing since felt just grabs all kinds of dirt and dust

A giraffe is huge. I used it to cover an antique day bed. Leftover was used as a rug in my (small) gun room. There is additional leftover still!

I think you could cut it smaller and square and then make a rug. The neck could be a fantastic gun case for whatever 7’ long gun you might own…

I used an eland to cover our kitchen chairs. It looks great. The blue sections are the best.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
