After impala and warthog, blue wildebeest are my favorite PG species to hunt over the $1k threshold. I had so much fun picking mine out and finding him again… just marvelous animals.

I love to hunt Wildebeest. They are a very underrated species, tough as nails and can be very hard to hunt.

Have taken both a black and a blue, this scrum cap was from an area that had not been hunted in 30 years. We were not hunting wildebeest and just simply admired this old fellow. I wonder what age he would be to have worn down his horns this much.

True, true... But, I think @A Frame66 has the better idea. Might need a tack hammer to seal the deal, but you just never know.

I have 2 - a blue and a black. Both have stories behind them. I would (will) happily hunt them again someday.

I saw tons of wildebeest and made many stalks onto them during the 2 weeks I was there, last day of the trip we were finally able to get on some bulls. Will hunt them again when I return.

The blue... Marlin MXLR .338 ME, factory ammo...

The black... Marlin GBL, .45-70, handloads with 325 grain Cutting Edge brass solids; shot entered under the chin and exited just to the side of the anus.

awesome thanks, I love that kind of stuff. I haven’t utilized my woodleighs in my marlin 45-70’s yet but have tried all sorts of stuff. Pretty much anything works in that caliber!

And also something not common !
Once, my PH told me we must go to a farm where the owner wanted to cull wildebeests. I accepted and we arrived to spot them quite far. I looked through my binoculars and I was very surprised. "Hybrids !"
My PH checked and was also very surprised..."We have to shoot them! "
They were very clever and we struggled to shoot some of them. The goal was to kill all of them because hybrids are not desired. It seems a black wildebeest bull arrived in that place and started to breed with blue wildebeest cows.
It was more than 10 years ago but the trophies of bulls were awesome.

That’s really unique, but it’s unfortunate those hybrids were even allowed to reach that age and breed further with black wildebeest.
