I have killed a lot of wildebeests and I love them.
The blue wildebeest was my second african game and I really fell in love of this antelope. It's like eland, kudu or oryx, you never get tired of them.
Thanks to a PH, I was able to hunt and cull many of them. A lot of cows, but also young bulls and of course some big bulls.
Not a big trophy but an old one and the biggest about the body size. This animal was standing in this big open area with 2 other bulls who were mature but much smaller. I really regret that we didn't put it on the scale. A Nosler Accubond 180 gr shot from my .300 Winchester did the job.
The last one, with the .375 H&H magnum and a Degol Starkmantel 300 gr.
A good cull, probably the smallest horns I have seen. The PH told me to shoot it or he'll do it himself to remove this weak genetic of his farm.
Another big bull dropped with the 6.5 Creedmoor and Barnes TTSX 120 gr.
Even with the .458 Lott, they can run a bit before going down.
A double with Nosler Partition 220 gr.
A Black wildebeest with the 6.5 Creedmoor and Swift Scirocco 130 gr.
And also something not common !
Once, my PH told me we must go to a farm where the owner wanted to cull wildebeests. I accepted and we arrived to spot them quite far. I looked through my binoculars and I was very surprised. "Hybrids !"
My PH checked and was also very surprised..."We have to shoot them! "
They were very clever and we struggled to shoot some of them. The goal was to kill all of them because hybrids are not desired. It seems a black wildebeest bull arrived in that place and started to breed with blue wildebeest cows.
It was more than 10 years ago but the trophies of bulls were awesome.
