Wife say I have a Problem!!!!

While she might be right….it sure as hell ain’t keeping my doubles properly fed!!! At least not for a while.

Picked up the gals some jugs for Christmas. Wife wondered why I had all these new black jugs that seem awfully similar to so many other black jugs I already have. Lol. Gave her the full explanation, and how these were also all the same lot and at days gone by prices. I think she caught on.
@Wildwillalaska
If'n that's feeding a few doubles it ain't going to last long depending on the cartridge.
Personally I think you need a bit more.
If'n I buy 1# bottles of different batch numbers I mix them all together and end up with one batch all the same and re bottle it. That way I don't have to worry about working up loads with each batch. That's what I did with 20x1# bottles of CFE 223.

Well time for my bad influence self to come assist.

Why do you have such a small amount of powder?
Right? Sadly it’s all they had.

When this runs out I do fortunately have way more Varget and H4350, if I don’t pick up more of their RL16. It showed real promise in my 470, but everything shot so perfectly in my 450 with RL15 that I never even tried it.

My saving grace, is Wifey can't tell one gun from another. "Oh, no Baby! I've had that one for ages. Remember?"
Back in college, the gun store I worked at, I used that issue as a big selling point on gun safes. Not only do they add a level of protection, but a whole new out of sight and out of mind level of camouflage. They don’t make them big enough, but as you get to three or four of them, then the real ability for shell games come into play. “What, that old thing, I just remembered it and moved it up from that other safe with the interior removed and softs cases stacked like cordwood so I could remember to take it out to the range next weekend” kind of fun. And why the old adage of fearing when you pass your wife will sell your guns for what you said they cost.

OMG, I never thought of that! I'm taking em with me...

Just do some more shooting. Before long you will be like me and unable to hear a word she says.

Only used for 470 and 450 3 1/4” so far, but have a couple 450/400’s and a 500 that I need to work up loads for and likely at least try and see how it does in my 505.

I posted during load development on my 450 3 1/4”, which shot everything pretty stellar, but also found this batch a bit faster I think than a friend/fellow forum member who helped with initial loads. I had to back off a few grains to match same velocities.
@Wildwillalaska
Start loading a 505 and you only get about 60
rounds per pound.
So the powder won't last long. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT MORE.

If you have access to RL16 I would snag it. I tried the same charge I sent you home with in 450 with RL16. Was a tad faster and slightly crossing but very accurate as well.

It works great in many other cartridges as well.

The same store has 7-8 of the 8lb kegs left. I guess I’ll start grabbing one of them each time I pick up a gun. If my wife calls you all pissed off, just run through the logic with her, she’ll calm right down.

I will note that the loads showing the best accuracy and speeds in my 470 were RL16, well, that and H4350. With how well the 450 shot with RL15, and was leaving for Zim within just a few days, I never even tried the RL16 in it.

Going to see what kind of temperature insensitivity RL15 really has and go try to test rounds in the 500 and 450/400 tomorrow morning…hoping the temps come up below zero vs the negative 5-12 we’ve had the last week. I will get the wood stove cranking in whatever shooting house I select.

At some point you should have enough that a few more black jugs won’t stand out.

Two points:

1. My wife one time commented on all the guns that look the same...similar to your black jugs. I asked her how many pairs of black shoes she has. It quelled the conversation.

2. We have had to move out of our house for a remodel. We have been married now for 34 years and I probably averaged buying a gun or two a year and have never sold one. I don't hide gun (or any) purchases from her and she rarely asks the pricing. However, on this move, I put all the guns together and organized so I could personally move all of them. She saw them and was flabbergasted. I just reminded her they last forever when properly taken care of and asked how many black shoes she has thrown away and replaced since marriage. She tottled back off to packing...

Good answer!

See, you just need some more dedicated space so she won't even SEE them....My wife wouldn't know up from down in my shop.

I always took out empty guncase and brought it back full .Powder I just tell them its survivial stuff .Its funny only thing old fg freaked out on was matches .I had around 100000 told her one day you will figure it out .

I’ve done the same back in days of scarcity, I was going through lots of varget and H1000, was happy to get hands on whatever I could find. Works perfect when necessary. I try to avoid 1# cans whenever possible these days.

Agree. I had a dedicated vaulted gunroom in my old house which I sold late 23’. Moved in with my GF temporarily while we shopped for houses and plan was to sell hers too, wanting to get onto one of our local lakes for our girls…and I was planning to get a super cub on floats. (That plan changed)

We found the lake and area we loved, great few lots, ugly house, talked ourselves into downsizing being smart and after buying the house and adjacent lots dumped a few hundred thousand out of pocket rebuilding what I should have just bulldozed and started over. Wouldn’t have cost much more and would have been the floor plan we wanted. GF who is now my bride, likes the house, so I’m happy as well, it will serve us well as we age. BUT…I need a shop for sure.

We have the spot set out for shop and 1-2 bedroom home design for the area above it, just might be another couple years before we build. Until then, most of my reloading equipment and supplies live in two 10x20’ heated storage units. Wifey has an idea how many big totes if black jugs and bricks of powder there were as she helped pack them originally. And a black jugs is a black jug to her, she’s really pretty understanding. I mean she did get excited when I suggested leaving Maui a couple-me days early to go to San Antonio to look at a double and make sure things were legit.

For now, I have a small make shift reloading bench set in garage, inline fabrication mount allows quick switch between single stage presses and trimmer. I have ammo for handful of frequently used rifles, little handgun ammo, then powder/brass/bullets for what I’m immediately loading, everything else is in storage. Wife does kinda smile and give me a side eye when she sees me walk in with another jug, but more like where are we going to put that…my little garage corner powder closet is small? lol

But the amount of pounds on display = 2400 rounds of .505, which may, or may not be "enough".

Serious question though Wildwillalaska - how many rounds do you shoot per year?

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?

Thank you.
