Why The 30-06 Has Been rendered OBSOLETE

Don't worry, we'll either rename the 30'06 as a Creedmore, or a Whelen, and if all else fails, put a magnum belt on it. It will be far more powerful then.

I've been calling it the .300-'06 (pronounced "three hundred ought-six") so the animals I kill won't suspect I'm using an obsolete cartridge.

longtime brown bear guide, phil shoemaker has this little line on his posts/credits:

"Anyone who claims the 30-06 is not effective has either not used one, or else is unwittingly commenting on their marksmanship."

i have to agree with the man.
I will help Phil with the proper grammar for that shining pearl of wisdom.

"Those who claim the 30-06 is not effective have either not used one, or else they are unwittingly commenting on their [lack of] marksmanship."

Pass it on to him with all due respect. Best to stay in the same tense in the same sentence.

After careful consideration, I agree that the 30-06 is woefully inadequate for modern hunting.

Being the generous and Gentlemanly soul that I am, I've decided to offer 50 Bucks for any and all rifles so chambered.

A .30-06 is just a .300 Win Mag with the last 153 yards sawed off. It just means that a hunter with a .30-06 is 153 yards better than a hunter with a .300 Win Mag.
I liked this post a few days ago, but I keep getting reminders that folks are posting. A lot of the most recent posts have been awesome. But I keep scrolling up to yours‘cause it’s so f-ing funny!

Dude, I’m totally stealing your “.300-06” and the the “153yds. sawed off” line. Brilliant!

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
