Who likes the 7X57

I've seen a lot of recent threads on the 9.3s, .303s, .318s, & other fine ctgs.
I'm pretty fond of the good old
7X57 or as some say .275 Rigby.
Where I am deer & elk are on the list. I feel the 7X57 is completely adequate!
Others thoughts?

One of my two favorites cartridges!
My first, and only, big game rifle for 20 years, inherited from my greatgrandfather, was a 7x57. I still have it.

No way! 7mm08 forever!
Actually, I considered the 7x57 very seriously, I would have much preferred it to be marked .275 Rigby just because. Brass is a little easier to find for the 7mm08 in my neck of the woods. When brass was available that is.
A friend of mine who was a gunsmith had his favorite rifle in 7x57. It was a Merkel over/ under that he used on deer, bear and elk to excellent effect.

I do the same and agree 100%. The cartridge is effective and the #1 is a delight in a deer blind or woods.

I have had a 7x57 for only a couple of years, but really like it. I bought it because of it's classic caliber and I was fortunate to stumble upon one of the Win Mod 70 semi-Super Grades. It's right up there and in the same ballpark as a 270.

Had a custom one made and took it to NZ for Red Deer. Great dear cartridge but sold it. More of an Aficionados cartridge and there are now better multi-purpose cartridges available. Before anyone gets on their high horse about shooting Elephants in Africa ... try turning up for an Elephant hunt (with witnesses) with a 7x57 today . The PH will wonder wtf have I got here ! There is a reason its illegal for big game as well as not being the best choice.

What’s not to like? A great old round with nothing left to prove. Right up there with the 30-06. From a practical standpoint, the 7mm-08 is probably a better choice unless you handload. A lot of 7x57 factory loads can be weak sauce so they’re safe in older rifles. But I’m not a practical person. I prefer cartridges designed before the Great War.

Boy, the 7-08 is a good ctg. However no one could live on the difference between the two. I'll go with the .275/7X57 because I LIKE 175gr bullets & some 7-08 magazines are too short. The neck can be too short for heavy bullet to seat normally.
I'll go with the 7X57/.275!!!

Two peas in a pod, however the 7x57 holds a few grains more powder. I always use 7-08 data to load 7x57.
Start at max and work up from there...LOL.

7x57 is not a magical cartridge but is excellent when used for its intended game.

I love the round but I also have enjoyed a bourbon as much as I have a good scotch!

I bought this E.J. Churchill 7x57mm Mauser ( built on a military surplus Yugoslavian Mauser 98 action ) in 1989. It sees routine use on Chital deer, Kakar deer and jungle boars. It’s also accounted for one man eating Royal Bengal tiger in 1989 and one rogue Asian sloth bear in 1991.

I prefer factory loaded RWS Brenneke T.I.G 177 Gr soft points in my rifle. They can absolutely hammer even a 300 Lb jungle boar from any angle.

He is asking 2.5 prices for it too, about $2000. The others I saw were around $500. Not a common rifle.

always had a likeing for the 7x57 and have hade a few oer the years and built a couple of customs as well. Presently have 6.5x57 for what I had been using the 7x57.
