Which Leupold for a CZ550?

Look for advice for those with a CZ550. Recently picked one up and am looking at maybe adding a Swarovski Z8i 2-16 in Talley QD rings but from my research the swaro doesn’t have enough elevation for the CZ rifles.

I was told by a PH I respect a lot that Leupold has more range and he said that would be the brand of scope to go with.

With that in mind, I’m looking for something with a bit more zoom, illuminated firedot and enough elevation adjustment for the CZ550. It’s a .375h&h and planing on shooting 300 grain bullets. Animals are buff and croc with a potential for elephant but will probably have a double for that one.

I run the VX5 2-10x42 firedot as well, used it in Botswana on a 375 and it was a fantastic combo. I can’t speak for the other brands as I am sure they are also great. It’s now on top of a .375 Kimber Caprivi and I am planning on running the VX5 1-4x24 on my .416 rem mag.

I also run a VX5 2-10 with FireDot, except I opted for the CDS, on my 375 Ruger.
When hunting I do not want to count clicks or figure hold over. Simply dial to the yardage and send it.

Another vote for the VX5HD 2-10x42, I have one on my Ruger African 35 Whelen and love it, good value for the price. Give @Mark Biggerstaff a call and he will fix you up with a good deal and also just a great guy to buy from and talk with about scopes

Are you wanting to dial for distance on your 375 ? I have a CZ 550 in 30-06 with no problems zeroing the two scopes that I have had on it ( a Lynx and a Vortex Crossfire). Both zero around the middle of their range. I read where one guy struggled but I believe there was a problem with his rifle, either barrel to action or the double square bridge was machined wrong.

With a range of 54 MOA, you would have 27 MOA elevation after zeroing. Even if the mounts are off Centre, I would imagine at least 20 MOA of elevation remains. You should be good well past 700 yards with 20 MOA.

Have a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby. Topped it with a simple Zeiss 1 - 4 x 24 Conquest with illuminated reticle. Works great.

Although I love the Swaro glass, they are a pain to mount, especially on a CZ550.

The Swaro is brighter than the Leupold, but when you compare the two side by side, and see how much larger the rear (ocular) lens is on the Swaro, you can understand how they get that brightness. The problem is, it won't clear the factory bolt handle on the CZ550, unless it's mounted significantly higher than any comparable scope, like the Leupold.

Most Leupold products will take a low, or medium mount depending on objective lens diameter. The Z8i is going to need a high mount no matter what.

Get the VX-6HD 2-12x42. Zero it at 100 yards with 300-grain Swift A-Frames or Barnes TSX. Practice from sticks and offhand. Then go hunt.

I went with a Trijicon 1-6x24 with Alaskan Arms QR mounts, on my CZ-550. This scope has served me well on three safaris which two of them were for DG.

If you want quality and ruggedness go with a Nightforce or Trijicon. New lightweight Leopolds aren't worth the money.

I went with a Trijicon 1-6x24 with Alaskan Arms QR mounts, on my CZ-550. This scope has served me well on three safaris which two of them were for DG.

I am shopping for a LPVO for my new 375, have it narrowed down to the Trijicon, did you like the 1-6x for PG hunting also or did you want more magnification. I am looking at the 1-8 and 1-10 also. Tough choice. I have a 1-8x LPVO on my scout rifle and it does everything I want. Just not sure I want to go down to a 1-6.

Per Mark’s recommendation I put this scope on my .375 and it’s absolutely ideal; I like it so much I just snagged a 3-15x44 by to put on my .300win

Tough choice. I have a 1-8x LPVO on my scout rifle and it does everything I want. Just not sure I want to go down to a 1-6.

It is always nice to have extra magnification, but I never felt that I was under scoped. On my last trip to the Eastern Cape, I took the longest shot I've taken on any animal. I took a Kudu at 312 yds with this scope rifle combo, and it was at last light, and I could see the green dot and the Kudu without any issues.

The first time I hunted with this rifle/scope combo was in 2022. I hunted the Eastern Cape and the Kalahari. I was shocked with the Eastern Cape terrain and was not expected to be hunting in the mountains. The only time I think a bit more magnification would have been useful was hunting Bushbucks. Those little buggers are small and they can hide. Once I found him on the scope, I had no issues taking him.

IMHO, for the money, I don't believe you can beat this Trijicon scope. I hope this helps, good luck.

On a dark animal in the shade or in low light conditions, a lighted reticle is a wonderful thing.
