Wheels Up in 9 weeks, here is my checklist...

Rifle case all sorted out. Spent a bit of time cutting foam to fit around the action under and around barrels and made a bed for the Trijicon, I have another fitted foam piece that goes on top of it. Heym .500 NE on the left and Heym 9.3x74R on the right. The scope for the 9.3x74R will be going in the carry on.

When the divider on right side closes it has a Fedex label envelope that has the 4457s and a copy of my passport page along with a card containing my email and phone number. So, when the main lid is opened that is what one will be seeing.

Great list - us OCD types have to have them :)

Tanks, personally I’m a bit nervous about having that much personal info (copy of passport in particular) not on my person. Too many stories of guns disappearing on flights. Gun cases being opened without the owner there. Etc. But, if you’ve never had that problem, I can see you’d be comfortable doing it.

Looking forward to reading an exciting report! Best of luck!

Well, form 4457 does have one's address on it. I am actually more concerned about that than passport info. On the outside of luggage I always put name, email address and a phone contact, no address. I bought a Beretta 1301 Tactical specifically for my girlfriend to keep in the bedroom while I am gone. She knows how to run semi-auto shotguns as that is what she started using for Sporting Clays.

I figure that and a Bouvier des Flanders I trained for Shutzhund will keep her safe. ;)

I reworked my Safari checklist for the current conditions and the 21 day hunt I will have in Zimbabwe. I usually pack everything and check it off the "completed" column a couple of days before leaving. I do weigh it just in case, but usually quite a bit under the limits. PCR test result will be the day of. Here it is.

Duct tape! Good call. A man can create an empire with guns, ammo, cash and duct tape.....oh and a pith helmet. Great list!

Good list, I have one as well but just jotted on a legal pad. The only thing you don’t have on your list and I didn’t have on mine and wished I did was chap stick!

Thanks for the inspiration. I was putting it off but jotted my list down on a legal pad last night after I saw yours.

Had to reconfigure rifle packing as I don't want to move the Trijicon, so moved everything to a Pelican 1700. Seeing I had room left the scope on the other barrel as well. Thanks to @One Day... for lead on the foam from ebay. Used tailor's chalk for the outline and a foam cutting knife. Pics are before and after. I went halfway into the bottom layer foam (there are 3 layers) to make the scope flush. I purposely did not make the cheekpiece flush as the foam on the lid pushes into it to make sure nothing moves.

Finally, the Heym .500 NE is dialed in. Yesterday, while practicing with "hasty sling" I noticed that while I was getting decent groups they were high and to the left. Went to the range today and shot some groups from the sticks, adjusting the 1 MOA dot Trijicon after each L/R pair at 62 yards.

First was high and to the left, a few clicks down and to the right second pair was to the right and down, a couple of clicks up and to the left third pair was almost there. A small adjustment and I am happy. I was also impressed by the L/R consistency. Now the rest is up to the PH to get me within 50 yards or so of a buffalo and an elephant. ;)

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
