What to hunt? Warthog or Springbok?

I shot 16 Warthogs and 3 Springboks, it´s as @Charlie64 said, so, if you you see a good warthog shoot it, a good Springbok, you can look for it.

Shoot both! You may never have an opportunity to go back and $500.00 will seem like nothing in 2 years. The biggest expense is the flight-- you are already doing that so take advantage of the opportunity and bang 'em both!

Springbok is easier to get than the warthog. I'd focus on the warthog; see if you can hunt it at night. Once you get it, discuss the Springbok.

I love them both and would take whichever presented a representative specimen first.
Both can be a fun stalk!
One advantage of springbok is that you could go back and hunt the color varieties in the future if you were inclined.
But with both you can always try to shoot a “better one” each time you go.

I’d wait to hunt a springbok until a trip further west. Much of the east cape is not their native range or primary habitat. As many others have said, look for a good pig.

As others have said NEVER pass on a good warthog!
I hunted with G4A and saw some decent pigs but my buddy had first dibs on warthog, he could never close the deal. I did notice that a lot of the older boars had chipped and broken tusks from fighting snd rooting amongst the rocks.
Wiks prices are very affordable and you can probably afford both bye saving a few bucks a week before your safari begins.
I’m always on the lookout for a good pig but really haven’t seen one that will better my Mozambique boar at least not yet.
Good luck and the G4A folks will supply a hunt of a lifetime! They have some great buffalo and I’m constantly trying to convince the wife I need to collect one!

I say springbok puts a little Afrikaans to the lingo. We also saw some nice springbok but didn’t hunt them there, I figured out later in the NW province and Free State that the EC trophy quality was good but not great.

First talk to your PH and ask for details. The EC is a huge place with a very wide variety of environments.

On my first hunt, which was in several parts of the EC, we were always watching for a good wart hog but first off it was not a good time of year. It was still hot so the big boars were mostly underground during the day. We did see a couple big bodied ones early mornings but they had broken off tusks. It was very rocky areas. Didn't get one but shot a cull the next trip. Finally got a big one in Limpopo and a bigger one in Tanzania

Springbok or springbuck are desert animals so best hunted in the Karoo of the EC or the Kalahari. I truly enjoyed every Springbok hunt I've been on but the wide open areas where they are endemic are always best and the most fun

Both are worthwhile trophies. When I shot my first i looked at the PH and said "that was fun, let's do it again! He was game so I shot 3

Don't overlook a trophy blesbuck. They should be priced reasonably in the EC. Black Wildebeest and Red Hartebeest are a couple of my favorite PG, especially in the EC. Consider them. And don't write of a trophy Steenbok or duiker. They go well with a buffalo

And to really add to your hunt, do some night hunting! If you get your buffalo early in the day, go in and celebrate, rest up... and if you don't celebrate too much, go out that night! Take a simple predator mouth call. Or record some dying rabbit and squeezing mouse on you phone. That is if your PH doesn't have those. Calling in jackal is a blast! You may get a Caracal, Serval, Civit or even a leopard to come in... exciting experience! Maybe not a leopard in the EC but in Limpopo I've had it happen several times South African is crawling with big leopard...

Do you have other animals in your package besides the buffalo? G4A is a fantastic group, and you'll be in action. I imagine you'll have your buffalo within 1-3 days with plenty of time to hunt other critters as your budget permits. Personally, I'd choose the warthog over the springbok, but you'll likely have time to get eyes on both of them before making a choice.

In my experience with Wik, if you tell him you want to hunt something, you'll oftentimes have it in the salt that afternoon. My picture here is a testament to that!

A good warthog may be a bit of luck and take some looking to find. I would pick one over a springbuck if I had to choose. They are both iconic South African animals, I hope you have the opportunity for both. As mentioned by @ActionBob , consider a Common Blesbuck, same habitat as Springbuck and very attractive antelope.

If you can really only do one of them, I would pick the warthog.

I would talk to the outfitter beforehand and ask to look/keep an eye out for warthog the entire time, and have a plan that on the last day if you haven't gotten a warthog, go for a springbok.

My Warthog is one of my favorite trophies from any hunt I've done. They seem surprisingly hard to come by for many hunters. I do regret not bringing a Springbok home. There is an empty spot on the wall next to my Impala and Blesbok where a Springbok should be. But I would still hunt a Warthog first if you can get on one. As others have said, both can be some of the cheaper trophies on a price list so if you can swing both on a trip that's ultimately maybe the best option financially. Otherwise you'll wind up pining to make another whole trip to Africa for a sub-$1000 animal.

Well, just go be in Africa and be ready for whichever shows up first. Then, decide what to do after that.

For the right warthog or springbok, I might even forget about Buffalo for a few minutes.

I think the springbok will be an easier hunt although probably a longer shot of 200 meters or more. Finding a really good trophy warthog with unbroken tusks can be a real challenge and then getting a shot can be difficult. It took me four trips to get a shot on a good warthog. Springbok was a one day affair.

I would go for the warthog if you can only do one of the two extras
