What to hunt? Warthog or Springbok?

It’s certainly harder to get a good warthog than a sprinbok.
If possible, take both.

Do you have other animals in your package besides the buffalo? G4A is a fantastic group, and you'll be in action. I imagine you'll have your buffalo within 1-3 days with plenty of time to hunt other critters as your budget permits. Personally, I'd choose the warthog over the springbok, but you'll likely have time to get eyes on both of them before making a choice.

In my experience with Wik, if you tell him you want to hunt something, you'll oftentimes have it in the salt that afternoon. My picture here is a testament to that!

Just one buffalo in my package. Will certainly try and take a Warthog too

Both make for very exciting hunts. The warthog makes for the marginally better trophy.

I've hunting springbok on both my visits to Africa. It is a really fun hunt. Warthog were both times a animal of opportunity. Was not actively searching for one.

I think you can do both and it will definitely not break the bank. Also the let them boil the tusks and you are good to go. But I've I had to choose I would go for the springbok.

I say both. Warthog is on my list every time I hunt Africa but they are more of a target of opportunity and only random encounters have been my experience. Hard to hunt. Springbok on the other hand can be hunted and stalked. My PH in Limpopo was a member of the RSA National Rugby team. You might want to look him up.

What's the area known for? Big warthog or big springbok? Me, I'd go with that first. If they are known for both, then I'd go for warthog.

I would decide based on quality of each in the area you are hunting. After many safaris I have only been in areas that had Springbok 20ish percent of the time. Where Warthog's are almost everywhere. But I would not turn down a stud warthog anywhere either.

Generally, when you find a good heard of Springbok there will be a shooter in there. NOT the case at all with Warthog's.

Obsession with warthogs? To each their own I guess. I’ve run into a lot of them while hunting. With more than a few good ones mixed in. The only one I felt compelled to shoot was a crippled one that had been hit by a vehicle. Similar feeling about shooting baboons.

Hunting wary springbok is a different thing completely! Very similar to hunting wary impala. Picking out a good one mixed in a bunch, stalking in close enough, then getting clean shot can be a challenge. Same for hunting spooky zebras in broken country and woodlands then working into position for good shot at a stallion. Warthogs? eh
just my opinion…

I'll be "that guy" and say that warthog will be much more complicated to import--all swine are. Every time I hear of trophy shipment delays, there's a swine in the mix, that's why they take longer. The springbok will look better on your wall. It's visually worth shoulder mounting. Kids will want to pet it.

There's a reason people are insulted if you call them a warthog--they are ugly. In a good way....

If you use a competent import broker with a bonded warehouse you will notice virtually no difference in your import process. Truth.

Let the pros handle it and you will have no need to worry. That is what I have noticed.

Maybe the instances I speak of - everyone just got lucky, Could be.
