What Scope for .375 H&H??

@Shootist43 i took your advice! My eyes are not getting younger. (And @Graham Hunter ). My scope combo is a swaro 1.25-4 and a leupold vx5-HD 3-15 firedot. I elected to go 3-15 and see how I like it, if that is too much, I’ll put it on another rifle. I plan to also bring the .375 for moose in BC this fall and elk in Idaho and Montana.
Thank you all for your input. I plan to burn some ammo this weekend and see how it all works. This will be my first try with Talley QD rings, I’m curious to find out if they work.

Just went with a Leupold VX-6 HD 2-12x42 for my Mauser 9.3x62. Bought a second one that I'm going to put on a 308 win I have for now but will move it to the Blaser 375 H&H I'm going to order next year. If I need short range shots, I'll drop the scope with the QD mount and go to open sights. Agree on that Firedot illumination, very nice.

Tra3, you may have seen my previous posts elsewhere about my setup on my 375 H&H.
Leupold VX6, 1-6x usually for DG, but have taken blesbok at 300+ yards.
Leupold VX-6, 2-12x usually for PG, but I have only used the 12x for a 90 yard shot on croc where I needed a precise shot.
Both in Warne QR rings.
Both illuminated and that’s all I’ll buy anymore. Highly required for quick target acquisition. Needed for low light, night critters. Needed when dark game (buff) is in dark shadows. Needed on dark misty/rainy days on dark wet game (black bear, brown bear examples).
In the passed I have shot antelope at over 400 yards using a 30-06 topped with a fixed 4x Redfield. But more power, used properly, helps old eyes. Just don’t forget to turn the magnification down when not needed!
You’re going to like your new scopes I think!

Going to have to give the 1-6 VX-6 HD a shot....tried a couple LPO scopes on borrowed rifles and they were pretty quick to get on target....guess it would be pretty hard to compare open sights vs LPO on your rifle as your brain would be kind of subjective to which was actually faster for you. Can see where the scope would help with lighting situations but don't have enough experience with LPO's to know if they would help or hinder the instinctive shooting I've developed over the years using open sights. Guessing it would probably help with a little practice.

After shooting until darker conditions on Sunday evening, I am completely surprised how functional a firedot scope is. It is instinctive. The dot is small enough to be precise. I’m now very likely to take the .375 H&H out West this year for practice. I’ll need a good amount of shooting with it before returning in June 2020 with @Jamy Traut Hunting Safaris

I was also in the market for a new scope to sit on top of my 375 and went with a Steiner Ranger 2-8x42 with illuminate reticle.
It was the first illuminated scope I have owned and it makes a difference.
Zeroing seemed so much easier and I look forward to using it on the hunt next week.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
