I’ve had them push a rock off before. Luckily I caught them in the process and bailing wired the lid shut.Every camp meal begins with a big rock or ha-dite block on top the cooler--otherwise a raccoon WILL open it and eat every last scrap of food in there! Could probably substitute local animal of choice.
In Africa, fresh bread is always appreciated, as are grilled tomatoes with breakfast. Impala liver was superb, but unknown at the camp I occupied in south Dande. I am keenly aware that foodstuffs and maybe especially vegetables have to be brought in at cost to any wild area. They do their best, and better than expected by American hunting camp standards. Most African cooks are masters of braising meats...yum. And the most luxurious part--I don't have to cook it and clean up!
