Hello,

My brother brought over a Pre 64 model 70 in .270 Win today for me to look at. It is very worn in the stock but the metal is fantastic no pitting anywhere I could see but the wood is losing its finish and the stock has a ton of deep gauges in it. the old Bausch + Lomb scope is fading and losing its blue blue the gun looks 100% original but i have never seen a pre64 model 70 have a magnum cross bolt, see the pictures. The only mention i could find was on the African models. i assume this may be some sort of vintage technique to bed the stock or the stock is incorrect. Let me know if you can help I have attached Photos.

Yes, I agree someone likely installed a cross bolt in the stock or restocked it with a magnum stock....

Pull the stock and you will likely see evidence of a crack in that area. Vintage single crossbolts were typically placed ahead of the magazine, not behind it (e.g. military 98 Mausers).

Can someone caliper outside diameter of a Model 70 cocking piece for me. Thanks.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
