We Grow them Big in Texas

On my back porch a few months ago. 44” This is first one around the house in a few years. The cats had it wadded up and it was pizzed. If you line them up straight towards you, you can smack them and break their necks with a lariat rope. I’ve killed a lot that way.
We built our house in 2007. The first year we lived here, we killed 30 something rattlers on the ranch. The next year we killed 17 and it’s trickled down since then. Hate those things.

I keep on being amazed by the liberty you have on your own property in the US. In Europe, discharging a firearm in your own garden, would get you swat helicopters in no time.
@VertigoBE
Same reaction in Australia mate.

If one of my uncles came across a brown snake in the bush he would grab it by the tail and crack it like a whip. Said if you do it right breaks the back up near the head

Your uncle have mental issues? Those bit you , your dead as a hammer
I saw a guy try that on a prairie rattlesnake and it bit him on the finger, and he had a $100,000 hospital bill and a wicked scar up to his elbow.

Since the weekend of the fourth, we have been putting in long days cleaning up from the flood. This big fellow came boiling out of a debris pile yesterday evening. Out hunting I leave them alone, but here on the place with dogs and in this case Mrs. Red Leg standing twenty feet away, we put diamondbacks down when we see them. While Nancy beat a somewhat hasty and expletive laden retreat, I managed to pin him with the grapple on the tractor and then applied two rat shot loads to the business end. :W Shooting:
Mighty hunter! Did you get a thank you OR … was it considered to be all your fault:rolleyes::ROFLMAO::A Stirring::A Banana:?

I really like a 357 loaded with 38 +p ammo also , when I lived on the Rio grande
I loaded up exactly like you do 2 snake shot , followed by some 110gr

Wow! That’s HUGE!

4th of July 2024, my son in law shot a small rattler behind his camper TWICE in the head with #9 snake shot out of his Ruger Alaskan .44 magnum and didn’t kill it. He used a shovel to finally kill it.

I watched a cousin do it to a rattler in western Kansas many years ago... only he failed to get the proper whiplash on the neck and more just threw it backwards. At that point smarter choices were made and a .22LR was deployed.

While the theory seemed cool, seeing the failure quickly dispelled any ideas of grandeur in trying it for myself.

I have seen the gabbing them and popping them like a whip to pop there head.
And I have seen them poped with a bullwhip to kill them.
Not for me I keep a few ratshot for the 44 or tote the single 6 with the 22 mag cylinder for snakes.

I do too, but this sumbuck was on the porch. I went all Yellowstone on it.

This nasty bugger was beside the ladder on my tree stand. Big ole fat timber rattler. He coiled up but never rattled. A 9mm stoped him.

Speaking of doing what you want on your own property. A flame thrower is a great way to burn a brush pile.

That's a big timber rattler alright.... FYI in Texas those are protected and killing one gets you a fine, people have been fined by Texas game wardens after posting pics online.

Good thing I am not located in Texas.

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?

Hi Green Chile, I just recently bought a 470 NE barrel for my Thompson Center TCR 83-87 single shot. Im just looking for some 470 NE to shoot at the range just to try it out. I dont need anything special but I just wanted to see what you have left. I dont necessarily even need a full box.
Thanks
Bill
