I am looking to go to South Africa for wing shooting, I would consider doing some big game as well but mainly a wing shooting.

Good day, Sir!
I'll send you a DM!
Regards
Johan

What birds would you want to shoot?

Rock pigeons can be shot year round (as they're classed as vermin) and IMHO are amongst the best wing shooting around.

Waterfowl and terrestrial species like guinea fowl and francolin/spurfowl must be hunted in season, which may limit your timing a bit. Some provinces have certain waterfowl species listed as vermin which might widen the timing window.

From a personal recommendation perspective, try Grasslands Safaris in the Free State (contact Joubert).

I've hunted with Walter Enslin from Kwan Safaris numerous times and we are booked with him again for next year. He has good dogs, knows his areas very well and a good time was had by all.

Paul stones organizes bird hunts in SA when he’s not in
Niassa area, Moz.

I would just speak with him at the least. A gentleman and true hunter of all kinds

I hunted this year for a few days with Roger Berger in Free State. We were hunting big game but he offers bird hunts as well. We had planned to get in a day of wing shooting but my Cape Buffalo hunt took a few days longer than expected which forced us to cancel the bird hunt.

Also on our way North to Limpopo, I ran into a PH at a gas station who had been guiding a large group of European men on a epic wing shoot in Free State and Kwazulu-Natal. The PH saw me in the parking lot and mistook me for a fellow PH and approached speaking in Afrikaans greeting and asking about our hunt. (It must have been my short African style shorts and the RDB Safaris vest and hat and my somewhat hungover look on my face, as I stood in the parking lot with the Bakkie while my PH went inside to the john, lol).

I speak enough of the language to let him know that I was not the PH but was the client. When he saw our buff's skull in the bakkie, he got very excited and asked to bring his clients over to see it also. Sadly, I failed to remember the name of their outfitter. I know they specialize in bird hunting. So, it is out there if you look.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
