My taxidermy work is complete, crated & ready to ship from RSA to USA. Problem...the shipping agent has informed me that there is currently a large back log of shipments awaiting export permits. Apparently the permits were issued by each province in the past but are now processed in only one province which creates significant delay.

Am I alone or are any of my fellow hunters experiencing a similar issue?

Hi Robert - see note below from the taxidermy we use, I posed your statement to them:

This is 100% correct; I’m sitting with exactly the same problem. Permits used to be issued from the province where the hunt took place; now they’re issued by the province where the taxidermist is situated. So for example, all my applications now go to the Gauteng permit office.

Where the delays are coming in, are that Gauteng receive my application, then ask for verification of the hunt from the province where the hunt took place. Only when Gauteng have received verification, will they issue the export permit.

I’m waiting for some permits where I sent in applications nearly 3 months ago; I actually now am trying to apply for permits almost as soon as we receive the trophies.

From the 1st July, the permit offices are changing the system which should speed things up, but they’ve still got to get through the backlog. It’s all a mess and every taxidermist, I’m sure, is constantly explaining the situation to their clients!

Lets hope that from tomorrow it speeds things up...

Thanks for the issue verification. I feel less anxious knowing this is a situation that will be resolved with time and that I am not the only hunter experiencing the delay.

Robert,
This is correct......
But the permits are good for anywhere from 3 to 6 months and up to a year.
The taxidermist should have told the shipper that the work was almost ready and to apply for permits.
We are proactive in this regard for all our clients.

Best
Robert

Good work Robert, I love proactive folks in any business . But especially when it comes to my hunting trophies. I actually pay my taxidermist an additional expedited fee to complete my trophies in 90 days. I figure if I waited 1-2 years for my hunt I ve waited long enough! Gimme my trophies!:Bored:

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
