Trophy/reloading/man cave build

When the military brought me to GA, I looked for a house with high ceilings and lots of wall space. This was back in 2013, and I was waiting for my first African mounts to arrive. Last year I received my mounts from my 2022 safari, and they are on the wall. I have a very supporting wife, and every wall in our family room has at least one mount. I don't want to push my luck, but I believe this is it for me. I will either do euro mounts, and pictures, or end up building a mancave but I would rather use the money for more hunts.

I'm still following with high interest, and @CBeck office has me scratching my head on future plans. BTW, all you guys are bad influence. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

More progress!

First coat of paint on the ceiling. Walls will get a coat of lacquer this weekend.

that wood is beautiful. would you mind sharing where you sourced it if you purchased from a retailer, etc.? I've never considered doing a black ceiling, but that really makes everything pop.

It was actually sourced at Home Depot.

Huh….the heat and air unit came from HD.

I had to dive in a high mountain lake to recover the wood from an abandoned gold mine that had filled with water from the spring snow melt

well it looks great either way.

@CBeck , what are the dimensions on the wood you used on your ceiling? I want to cover up the old out of date popcorn ceiling and I like what you have done!

Going to be really dark in there when you are finished. Are you using can lights?

Yes. 6 of them installed on dimmer switches

Yes sir. 2 coats of lacquer

I’m curious why you went with black for the ceiling. I’m guessing just personal preference, but was there another reason? It does seem to make the room very dark and would maybe take away from the mounts when hung up.

I really like the tin and the fence boards. Did you just get creative with different stains and a torch to get all the different colors?

Great job so far!

Went with the black ceiling as I wanted the Room to be well lit with the can lights that show off the trophy’s.

I plan on using the room as a small cigar lounge. A place to watch a game, smoke a cigar and hang out with buddies.

All of the wood is natural. Wide variety of coloration/grain. Frankly, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. When we received the wood we thought about sorting it by color, etc., then decided against it. I am very happy with the way it turned out with a variety of wood coloration, etc.

I am planning on a rug to go under the 2 recliners and end table. The rug will be lighter, a good contrast with the dark ceiling

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
