Hi
I would like some ideas on hard bow cases for a trip to namibia in september.
some that will survive the baggage handler olympics . included the throw for distance and the drop for accuracy events.

I have used a standard metal case and a tuffpak. I prefer the tuffpak. It is sturdy, easily takes two guns in padded gun bags, has room for additional items and doesn't look exactly like a gun case, it kind of resembles a golf bag hard case. Either one will work just fine. My buddy got a metal long case from Cabellas, it has wheels and is set up for strapping your duffel bag on it for easy carrying on the ground. He loves it. My tuffpak is wheeled also.

I used a vangaurd double bow case this past september and it made the trip fine except for airport busting to latches that were locked without faa locks. My friend just got me a new polemountain BII hardcase and it looks indestructable it will be going to Alaska in August and I can report back then. For my guns I use a pelican case & it works great, but ive had aluminium cases completely destroyed after one trip.

SKB cases are bombproof and come with a $1000 insurance should your bow get hurt, another option is Vanguard which make very decent cases.

I still think the best option of all is no case. Seriously.

On my very first trip with a beautiful SKB double bow case, the porters and police at JHB had a field day. I had to answer questions, sign forms, pay bribes (Oh, i mean tips) and all sorts of other B.S. Totally not worth it.

Since that day i bought a rolling duffel with a drop bottom/zippered compartment at the bottom. I load my bows (one compound/one recurve) in the bottom wrapped in clothes and foam. Arrows go in fly rod tubes and MTM arrow cases.

When you pick up your bag at the carousel, you magically walk right out without having to mess with anyone! It's the way to go.

my skb double bow case carries 1500 insurance. it is a great case and i had no problems in jo-burg.

If you are going to use a case for your bow, I agree that SKB cannot be beat.

Absolutely Tom,

Since I do it that way with a huge duffle - ...etc. as you described it - I never had a problem at customs, police departments at the airports, check-in or at the conveyor belt. Sometimes I have to bring it to the bulky luggage booth because they could not put it on the conveyor belt at the check-in but with a bow case you always have to go to the bulky luggage check-in.
I never had a problem so far with the duffle on 4 trips overseas.
Bow, arrows etc. always arrived safely.

Before I had the Plano Maxcase which was sufficient for me. Advantage is that it is not that heavy as a SKB.

I have 8 bows hunting and for target also bowfishing all of them i keep in PLANO bow cases fine they are good enough

The only thing I can critizise is that the rivets of the hinge are a bit worn out in the meantime. That is no problem, since the cover has a large sort of 'tongue' or latch that grips inside the case, so even if the rivets would get lost you could not open the case.
I just think that a case of this price could do with better rivets, thats all.

Apart from that I am still very satisfied with the polemountain case.
