I wanted to start a thread on the Royal Bengal Tiger—an animal that was pushed to the brink of extinction after centuries of being plundered and misused as an exotic trophy.
Today, it is heartening to see this magnificent species slowly making a comeback, thanks to strict protection and conservation efforts within India’s national reserve forests. Seeing a Royal Bengal Tiger in its natural habitat is a powerful reminder of what focused conservation can achieve.
I encourage everyone, at least once in a lifetime, to visit these reserves and experience this firsthand.

The Louisiana State University (LSU) mascot is a live tiger. Traditionally it has been a Bengal Tiger, however the current one, Mike VII, is a Bengal-Siberian mix. Mike resides in a large habitat near the football stadium.

This photo was from this past weekend.

Our own @Hunter-Habib and a good friend of mine has taken two or three which I believe were man eaters

Yes, I hunted three man eating Royal Bengal tigers in the Sundarban mangrove forests during the two terms while I was posted as DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of the region (first term was from 1980 to 1983 and second term was from 1986 to 1989). Coincidentally, these are three of the only four man eating Royal Bengal tigers to be legally hunted in the Sundarbans after Bangladesh became independent in 1971.

Here they are.

The Man Eater Of Atharobeki (1989) (The Last Man Eating Royal Bengal Tiger To Be Legally Hunted In The Sundarbans)

I attempted to hunt another in 1987, but I failed. That one was killed by two of my forest guards via setting up a gun trap.

The Man Eater Of Talpatti (1987)

During my administration, I shot Royal Bengal tigers on three days (technically two nights & one day) of my life. The rest of my time was dedicated to protecting Royal Bengal tigers from the depredations of poachers. I had enacted a zero tolerance policy towards any form of tiger poaching in the Sundarbans. It put me at odds with a lot of human rights activists & tabloid journalists. But I stand by my policy. Royal Bengal tigers were being poached mercilessly in the 1970s for their hides, bones, fangs, genitals (which are often employed in herbal medicine as aphrodisiacs) and their body fat (which cures arthritis).

I wrote about my adventures with tigers in my autobiography three years ago.

Interestingly, I took this photograph of a Royal Bengal tiger curiously facing a tethered billy goat last year.

You are a fortunate man to have lived in the times/experienced all that you did. Stay well!

The first two were shot with a Pakistani Sikender single barreled full choke 12 gauge (2.75” chamber) shotgun. Loaded with Eley Alphamax LG shells. Each cartridge held eight pellets of .36 caliber.

The final one was shot with a 7x57mm Mauser Churchill Gun Makers Model Deluxe. Loaded with Winchester Super X 175Gr soft points.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
