The Galas rifle ZG 47 in 9,3 x 62 - all you need

Hi Rob44.
What means "Kostelecky" I do not know.
Witold
I'm not sure Witold, perhaps the last name of the first owner,,I will let you know should I decide to purchase it,,Thank you for your help

Beautiful Rifle Witold and a very good article:

The veb is very good article by 9,3 x 62 - " Otto Bocks Cartridge - African Expedition Magazine".

My own 9,3x62 is a Husqvarna 640 built on an FN commercial action. I have a .275 in the works also, the action is a 1908 Brazilian M98. Now if I only had a .404 .....:(

Kostelecky sounds like a Czech last name. But most likely the gunsmith's as it looks like it was rebarelled (.250 Savage caliber rifles were not produced by any of the Czech/Polish factories as far as I know).

i have recently purchased a rifle that is close to your ideal, a Brno ZKK600 fitted with a ZG47 barrel in 9.3x62. I hope it will become my ideal versatile hunting rifle, because I did own a ZG47 in 30-06 and loved the construction, the engineering and the finish, but it did not fit me. This new rifle came with a poorly fitted aftermarket stock, so it is going to be a custom rifle stock project that I hope will be the best of all - a good Czech action ( not quite as good as a ZG47) and excellent barrel, in a wonderful caliber, and custom fitted to me. Should be a fun project.

Funny. I have a 9.3 and like it so much I'm thinking of a project. I was considering a ZG47 as the base for one. I also saw a very nice but expensive Ralf Martini custom built on Brno Model 21 in 9.3x64. That actually got me thinking. Keep us posted.

Good day ZG47 friends,
I own serveral ZG rifles in Calibers 270,30-06,8x60,8x64,9.3x62 and the very famous 8x68s No.05217. It is the only factory ZG47 in this caliber that has ever been found.
The ZG has always served me well, and I feel it is the best rifle ever made.
Hi I,am on the Way too get a ZG47 in cal 9,3x62 an i would like to rebarrel it to 8x68s is it the standard zg47 recIver you have the reason i ask is because i has a weatherby barrel in 8x68s and hope its posible to Rebild the rifle sorry for my English regards Hans

Standard ZG47 action.
Not sure thread on the Weatherby barrel will be the same as ZG action.

8x68s is a versitile caliber. I am now prepaing my 8x68s BRNO ZKK602 for Cape Eland hunt later this season. Far shots - 300-400 metres.
220gn Woodleigh bullets at 2700fps.

Don’t know about the thread for that action. CIP shows the Max Length for the 8x68s is 87mm/3.425”. You might check to see if that action will accommodate this caliber. Here is a CIP file for the 8x68s.

The bolt face will also need to be modified. Why not leave the poor ZG alone? Or at least use cartridges with .476 base? 9.3x64 sounds better and would be less work. Anyway. ZG actions are great but there are fewer and fewer good ones to be found so I cringe when they get "chopped up". But 1) I need to get over that and maybe make mine to accommodate some big cartridge and 2) better than if they were forgotten or destroyed altogether. So good luck and let us know how it works out.

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?
