ZG 47 in 9,3 x 62 is my favorite rifle for big game hunting. I think that this rifle ZG 47 deserves reminder and recognition.
The ZG 47 unfortunately is relativery rare. It was shortly produced – there only 20,000rifles made. The rifle with serial number 00001 with date stamp 50 /1950/ was made in cal. 9,3 x 62 and belonged to the late Tony Harrison of Cape Town South Africa. The rifle is currently in possession of Mark Harison , son of the late Mr. Harrison Snr. The serial number of my rifle 03257.
The ZG 47 offered in the following standard caliber choices: 7 x 57 Mauser,
8 x 57, 8 x 60S, 8 x 64S, 30-06, 270WIN and 9,3 x62. Special order rifles could be had in 10,75 x 68 and 5,6 x 61 vom Hofe. ZG47 also offered as special order any Rimless cartridge no longer 3.33inches or 85mm thus rare rifles have known to exist in calibers such as the 9,3 x 64Brennecke and the 8 x 68S. The faktory poster for the ZG 47 rifle recommends the 8 x 64 caliber as the universal calibber for all hunting.
This rifle was equiped with Carl Zeiss Jena 4 x32 scope.
Scope mouting: the ZG47 like its predecessors sported the doubled square bridge action with integral dove tail grooves for scope mouting. I use Leupold scope 3-9 x 50.
This rifle is viewed by many as the pinnacle in Mauser action development and represents arguably of the finest factory production rifles ever made.
