I've been going through our video clips from the Namibia trip and thought I'd share this short clip. I call it, "The CECIL affect" Now granted, this lady is probably a very nice lady, someone's wife, mother, possibly grandmother, so I won't resort to calling her names or belittling her for her question. We were on a game drive at the Erindi Game Preserve.

The driver should have checked the serial number on the left front track.

Do you think she was trained on another game drive by the driver BS'ing about the names of the critters?

I'm not sure of her history, but it sure drew some laughs from the other riders. I wish I would have had the camera pointed at my daughters face when she asked it. That would have been worth it. Emily just looked at me, "like really Dad, is she serious?" :A Bonk:

WOW, just WOW!

Ya just cant make this stuff up! So uninformed.

I have read of camps where certain animals are seen frequently, and have been assigned names by the drivers/trackers. And they can be identified by their tracks. Missing toes, a dragging foot, etc. The viewer has no context at all. There are certainly people who have the view that lions are so rare that all of them are named, but I give her credit for being on a game drive and learning.

Given all the petting zoos in southern Africa, I can only imagine this woman was trained through close encounters there or through Youtube videos.
It sure does show how people are trained to think that Africa is one big petting zoo.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
