All,

Does anyone have any infomation on taking a rifle into Zimbabwe for a hunting safari?

The UK has an embargo on Zimbabwe, which includes sporting rifles. Same for any EU country I believe.

I assume people still take their own rifles with them, so must be a way to do it? IE land in Joberg and drive over the border?

Any advise appreciated.

Ticket from UK/EU to Joberg then a different, separate ticket via SAA from Joberg to Zim.

Do not use British Air. No problem coming or leaving Zim. All on the UK side

nothing to do with british airways...its the embargo on any weapons including sporting guns to zimbabwe that was put in place by the uk govnt. use the instructions above about separate tickets with first showing SA as end destination..

Yes do not use BA from JNB to anywhere in Southern Africa, that’s really Comair and they don’t carry guns. Zero problems with BA from LHR to JNB, other then the cost.

correct the SA operation is a franchise from BA. as for the cost as i have stated quite a few times its to cover the cost of the security firm that takes and looks after the guns, and places them on the plane. all is documented as to which person from the security company has taken possession of them and placed on the plane, so nothing to do with baggage handlers. so if any problems all is in writing....small price to pay i think.....

And use a service for saps520 in transit for the paperwork in Jo’burg. Saves a lot of hassle when something goes wrong (f.ex a cancelled flight)

As stated above overnight in JNB and should be ok. Need to have triplicate Zim gun form filled out and then it’s easy to enter Zim.

When it was 50 pounds each way, that's not bad. Now, it's 125 pound each way, that's not worth it!

philip if you fly in from uk you arrive depending on flight around 7.30 am as the flights are all over night ones, so can continue without needing to over night

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
