Survey: Your Favorite .30 Caliber

.30/06 is the perfect all rounder for everything in Australia, especially using hand loads. Love using .30/30 flat points (hog bombs) when stalking hogs in the scrub. Perfect stopper for an irate scrub bull if using 220 grain soft points, but alas, it will be the bare minimum calibre if a 'Yowie' decides to charge you!:ROFLMAO:

Rob

Hello Major,

I'm with you on the .30/06 Spr. I've taken most of my PG with it, plus (in Australia) camels, pigs, goats and even sharks with it. Heck, my daughter used it to roll her NT buffalo with it. Ive had my 30/06 for over 30yrs and she shoots180gr projectiles very accurately. So for me it's Woodleigh 180gr PPSN bullets a the way!!

Cheers! (y)

I love 30 calibers of all kinds, hunted with them, used in competition, shot for fun for more than 50 years!

30-06 for versatility

300 RUM for sheer power and long range capability has become my all time favorite!
I would agree 300 RUM is amazing

My official answer: 30-06.
Reason, good supply of ammo in shops, reasonable cost of ammo, effective all around cartrdidge/caliber.

My second choice, would be 308 win.
Similar reasons as per 30-06, in addition to ligher recoil, and possibly cheaper ammo.
However, I specialised my 308 for targets and competitions, although I have hunted with it as well, so honest answer for hunting caliber would be 30-06, of the two.

30.06 is the obvious choice lol nothing wrong with the .300 mags but you can't have a discussion about .30 cals and not pick the .06
I remember reading in a reloading manual that the 30/06 is the yardstick that all other high powers are measured by. Other calibres have flatter trajectory, hit harder etc etc, but the 30/06 is the all-round calibre to many.

My favorite .30 caliber is just barely the
.300 H&H.....

(followed very closely by the .303 British, the .30-06 and the .30-30 Winchester).

The 30/06 hands, down good ammo availability, no bullshit belt, feeds well out of the magazine, 120grain to 220 grain bullets manageable recoil, avail in a large range of rifles. One of the great rifle cartridges.
@rdog
Apart from my old 303 I have no great need for a 30 cal. The old three O is just for nostalgia. I jump from 25 to 35 nothing in the middle.
My son really loves the 308 and is impressed with its capabilities in both Australian and Namibia.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
