Keep it since it doesn't cost you anything and gives you a leg up over your brothers. Most compelling reason to me.

On a serious note: that's a solid platform and plenty of possibilities to get use out of it stateside since you handload. How'd it do at the range last weekend?
Thanks, and good input. I have not gotten it to the range yet, but hope to this weekend. It cooled off here in north Texas a couple of weeks ago, but then got hot again; so there's not much incentive to hurry to the outdoor range. :)

Legends in Allen is an air conditioned indoor range and rated up to .50 BMG…

It’s just 50 yards… but.. it’s also a DG rifle… so 50 ain’t a bad distance to shoot…

Just sayin… ;)

Pimp it - 458 African will fit in that action get some work done on the stock and neaten it up then suddenly you will have something special.

Yes, it will cost you more but you would then have an even more powerfull rifle among your family and somehting unique.

Good point, and I had forgotten about their rifle range; but I may do that instead of driving to my range an hour away.

Your rifle is an “Alpine” model built on a military surplus Argentine Model 1909 Mauser 98 action and exported by the Firearms Co. in England. They were always sold as kit rifles (unmarked), and quality depended very much on the skills of the gunsmith doing the final assembling. Here’s one in 7x57mm Mauser.

Check the feeding ramps of your rifle. Most of these rifles experience feeding problems when flat nosed bullets are used. But they feed perfectly with round nosed bullets.

Wow, that's very interesting; I had never heard of these Alpine rifles or the story behind them. I will take a closer look at mine to see if I can find any markings that are more indicative of this, as well as take a look at the feed ramp per your suggestion. Thanks very much for the info!

And the original metal bottom with the built in hinged magazine and push lever in trigger guard is a good one to keep of the Argentine actions
