I suspect it goes way back and the theory is a blunt tipped bullet would hit the limb "squarer" and deflect less. Also a heavy bullet would have more mass and therefore be harder to deflect.

Actual testing has shown the higher the velocity the less the deflection and mass and bullet shape having very little effect.

My experience in shooting at targets through brush was that what I expected was completely wrong.
I expected the slower moving Bullets to be better at not deflecting and the faster moving to be deflected more.
I used a 45/70 with 405 grain Bullets and a 270 with 130 grain bullet.
I really expected the 45/70 Bullets to plow through in a reasonably straight line etc.
Wrong in my case anyway.
The results were that the 270 bullets kept a “straighter” line fairly significantly much to my surprise.
Next time when I experiment again I’ll update as soon as the data are available.
Hope this helps l,

I had a Remington 700 Mountain in .270 Win and used it for feral hogs, deer and elk. 140 grain Accubond ended up as my favorite load. The 140 gr Ballistic Tips dropped everything instantly, however at a cost of blood shot meat. The Accubond dropped everything instantly but with much less loss of meat.

Consider the Remington Core-Lokt ammunition. Old school, but available and well proven for use in the woods.

Any commercially available deer bullet/loading in a 270 for shooting whitetail at under 100 yards. I don't see much to consider here. They will all work fine. When shooting zebra at 300 meters with a 270....now that requires a judicious bullet choice. ..............don't overthink the issue....just practice a lot.............FWB

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
