Mozambique, USA
I have just received the invoice for the air freight for my two crates from my safari in the Niassa Reserve in Mozambique that I left for a year ago to the day. I am looking at a little less than $2400 from JNB to DFW. The dip and pack from MOZ to SA was $2740. The contents are below. The billable weight is 180kg. I am also told that everything is operating as normal at DFW even during the shutdown.

Cape buffalo skull and horns, cape and back skin
Chobe bushbuck cape skull and horns
Eland cape skull and horns
Duiker full skin skull and horns
Hartebeest cape skull and horns
Sable cape skull and horns
Zebra flat skin
Warthog skull and tusks shipped in a separate crate.

Could you break it down further or correct me where I’m wrong? I haven’t looked that seriously into Mozambique because the total export costs have concerned me compared to other countries. The costs you paid to get to US isn’t so bad as I thought. I was thinking it was 4 part costs.
1. Export fee from Mozambique per animal and shipping to South Africa
2. D&P done at South Africa taxidermy. I thought all final D&P was done in South Africa for Mozambique?
3. Ship from South Africa to US
4. Custom broker fee in US and final shipping.

The files with the complete breakdowns are below. I will still have Coopersmiths charges at DFW. The only payments I make other than Coopersmiths are to Lifeform who handles the first two items on your list which was the $2740 and Safari Cargo Solutions will handle number three on your list which was the basically $2400. I estimate that I will have $1000 with Coopersmiths. I will try to handle the final shipping myself as I have an office in Fort Worth.

Were there no specific export costs to ship from Mozambique to Life Form in South Africa? This is a different outfitter’s list.

That looks very close to my total bill in 22. Same shipper. Lifeform charges a little more than most, but the quality of the skulls ( Snow White) is by far the best I’ve seen. They’re the only company I’ve seen that stuffs the noses and rubber (hoses) the tips on everything. I think you’ll be impressed when you get your crate - I was!!!!

There were no specific or additional costs from Pemba to Maputo to South Africa. I also did not pay Kambako any additional fee other than the trophy fee.

Thank you for the answers. That’s good to hear. These were two threads that came to mind. It seems like there are a lot of different ranges that get put out to export from Mozambique.

Thank you for posting this info. MOZ is likely my next destination and this helps a lot for planning.

Just under 2 years ago Coppersmith charged me $1676 for a very similar crate from JNB to DFW. I picked it up in person at their warehouse in Grapevine and they loaded it into my truck with a forklift. They were easy to deal with but the cost was higher than I was anticipating.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
