Hello.
Possibly Picking this guy up on trade along with a Glock 27. Trading a 1940 Winchester 94 in 30-30 for the lot possibly.

I was told it’s an eddy stone p-14 that was converted to 458 win at the Winchester custom shop at some point.

ERA an action is eddy stone and that’s all I know about it. Seems to be in great condition.

Need to decide if it make sense to get a left handed stock made for it or to try and pass it along and grab something that’s already left handed.

I know I probably can’t afford to get a stock as nice as the one on it made.

Any Informatio. Or advice would be Awsome.

Thank you.

Converted at the Winchester custom shop? Bullshxt!
I'd run from whoever that flim flam gun seller is!

That is a $1000 rifle, if you really want it and need it. Otherwise, I'd run away from it.
I think others will advise it is NOT worth $1000... They are probably correct.

I don't know the value of your 1940 Model 94, but chances are that it and your Glock are worth more than that thing.

Finally, there are left handed rifles available. Sell your Glock and Model 94 and save the money until you find a deal on a left handed dangerous game rifle.

My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it...

Haha your Awsome. I paid basically nothing for the 94. The Glock 27 would cover my investment making this rifle essentially free.

I thought it was weird that Winchester would build something out of a ERA action.

Any idea on who would have converted it ?

Looked thru the for sale section last night and the lefty prices are all far out of the range I’m able to swing.

The shop owner is a cool guy but mainly focuses on modern and milsurp stuff so this is definitely out of his wheel house he’s running off what the original seller told him. (Might try and buy it for what he paid which is 1/4 what his asking price is.).

I appreciate your time.

Glad to see you taking Mark's advice..... I'm no Winchester expert, but if the Winchester custom shop produced that rifle it must have been take Jerry's Kids to work day!

Several things are ODD about that rifle, first of all the ornate magazine floor plate does not match the bubba work shop theme of the rest of the rifle, also the Lyman rear sight appears to have been installed with a harbor freight flat head and the stock is in the "Bless You're Heart" category of ugly.

I haven't seen your 1940 model 30-30, but I will guarantee you the 30-30 will increase in value and will be infinitely easier to sell in the future; while selling the .458 will be an exercise in finding someone uneducated enough to buy it.

If you can buy the .458 at a low ball price for cash and you want it then go for it; but I wouldn't trade two sound guns for one that is questionable at best.

Here is the Winchester. I’m like 50/50 on whether it’s been reblued. If rig was the person took the time to do everything including all of the internals to make it match.

Was thinking the same thing as far as what’s gunna be easier to sell down the road. I have no intrest in 30-30 already have mixed brand levers in 22 357 44 243 and 308.

If I can pay cash And get it dirt cheap might grab it just to say I shot it.

Also I wasnt clear the trade offer is the Glock and the 458 for my Winchester. Not the other way around.

Hang onto the pre 64 Winchester 94 its likely worth more than that model 70….why is it wearing a gaudy Weatherby lookalike stock anyway?

Perhaps because...
1. It is a Pattern 17 (P17) rifle made in the Eddystone Arsenal. Notice the curved bolt handle and the long safety lever?
2. The grandious style of stocks that Weatherby championed were the popular style for post-WWII military conversions that us Big Boomers grew up with.

I would keep that 1940 Winchester M94. Yes is has marks in the bluing and stock, but probably blood stain pitting from real use. And it is a pre WWII Winchester, hand fitted by proper gunsmiths.

If you want (need) a left-handed .458, look for a left-hand Ruger M77 Mark II or Hawkeye, in 7mm or 300 mag and have it re-barreled, glass and pillar bedded, reinforced stock, by a gunsmith that builds heavy caliber rifles.
Not many guys know how to do this but there are a few out there.
Good rifle, correct side for you, and it will last.

I was eyeballing a few of the nice m77s in The sale threads. I didn’t realize they were that pricy I picked up my old rh tanger varmiter m77 in 22-250 for like $200 last year.
Might try and sell or trade that one for something larger

The lefty tax is real.

I could potentially also just rebarrel my lefty copper m52 338 to a a big bore.

Appreciate the advice

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
