Picked up a Savage 116 in 375 H&H. Have a couple 375 WBYs that started life as H&Hs.

Any problems/reasons not to have this one rechambered to 375 WBY?

I see you like to devalue your rifles. ;) I say go for it, whatever makes your clock tick. But seriously the value will decrease.

The extra fps is in my opinion not worth it for a rechambering. Especially if you already have a rifle in the same weatherby caliber.

I also just started seeing the Weartherby Weatherguard model with the grey cerakote on it. Anyone have any info on their Weatherguard they'd like to share and maybe how it compares to the Winchester XPR? I think i'll either stick to the 270 or get a 6.5 creedmore , can't decide which.

Couldn't care less about value. Especially this one since I got it for $650 with a Leupold scope.

Mainly I like to tinker, reload, and I like firearms that can shoot multiple cartridges.

Then I understand. iirc does the 375 weatherby also shoot the 375 h&h munition?

In Europe we have the 375 Blaser that also can shoot 375 h&h munition

Yes, the 375 WBY fires H&H ammo perfectly resulting in nicely formed 375 WBY brass.

I know the case profile is very similar with the Wby having straighter wall. May be worthwhile discussing with the Smith if feed work is included in the cost to rechamber, and if DG level cycling is assured.
You could try cycling some dummy rounds thru and maybe see how empty cases eject, just don't force anything into the H&H chamber deep enough to jam.

Have a smith the next town over that has converted a Mauser 98 to 375 WBY for me. He did a little work to the magazine to make it feed smooth as silk.

I dont see why a 375 WBY if something already has one , a 404 J would be a nicer addition ! Gun wise imo

Interesting,i had a Mauser 66 big game in 375hh,and was wondering if i could load a long range type projectile, someting like a match king
(single load)as 375hh is able to be used for not just close up shooting. Turns out nope as the HH twist wouldnt stabilize it but the WB375 has more grunt and can. not sure what the twist is though.

Recoil. I had a Savage 116 .375 H&H Magnum and it is a very lightweight rifle for the cartridge and recoil was unpleasant. Making this into the Weatherby chambering would be more unpleasant. I don’t think the Savage design is a particularly good fit for anything much beyond .30-06 or 7RM, but they are generally accurate rifles altogether and the price is usually attractive.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
