Sako Brown Bear 500 Jeffery

lol! I empathize. My CZ 550 was orignally a 375 H&H, but the recoil was found wanting. I had Harlan at the CZ Custom Shop, rebarrel/rechamber it to 500 Jeffery. Nothing left to be desired now :)

Strange as it sounds, the Sako will never see a hunt & I'm hoping the recoil is Significant!

You can bet at significant recoil! I have the Brown Bear in .450 Rigby - the weight is on the low side, the barrel is short and recoil is stout. With high pressure loads it is very sharp - more a kick than a push. with normal loads its manageable.

Well, glad to hear! … that's a nice caliber btw. I like this Brown Bear concept for it's overall compact fit. 22" Barrel, 9lbs in "500 Jefferey" at least. Addl, it appears to be built to handle the stress? Discouraged by investing in fussy firearms that are not inexpensive! … Thank You!

The Sako is very well made and the concept is perfect. The only downside (if you can call it that way) is - NO REAL CRF. Its "kind of crf" and way better than a push feed and when you work the actian fast enough, the chance is small, that a round will not make it into the chamber.

The front sight is very big - so good in low light or perfect for a stopping rifle at closest range - but accurate shooting isnt possible with this set of open sights. I dont mind, cause I use an Aimpoint Micro H2 on it - have the same combination in 9,3x62 (same sight setting also) - i cut the barrel down to 47cm (18.5 inch) and added a suppressor so the balance is not that different (the weight is by a bit). An old Series "4" Sako in .416 Remmag (with Aimpoint 7000 in twist mounts) completes the Sako for bigger game (a Sako A7 in .30-06 is also there as a bad weather working gun - that only for the Sakos) - you cannot have too many guns.

I second the 450 rigby assessment, I’ve got a cz safari classic in 450 rigby and with the Hornady ammo it is downright unpleasant.

@Voodooracer how are you getting on with the cannon? Im thinking about getting one after my custom build has been called off

The 500 is hands down one of my favorite rifles. I’ve been fairly conservative on shooting it since ammo is hard to come by and I’m not set up for reloading yet. Since I had the weight added, it’s very pleasant to shoot (for a 500 Jeffrey hahah). It’s one of the few rifles I’ll never sell, and for me that’s saying something.

Is it a single stack mag??

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
