Sako 375 H&H

stopped by one of the mom and pop stores today and the owner *just* got in a brand-spanking-new Sako in 375 H&H. Still in the plastic bag, hasn't even been taken out of the box yet. I know Sako makes a very very nice rifle, but does anyone have experience with these? And what's the going price for one? Trigger is excellent, breaks like glass but I expect that from them. The only downside is that the stock is very right-handed and I'm a southpaw but it's not a big thing.

When I was thinking about getting a left-handed Bavarian in 6.5x55 SE, he was kind enough to send me a quote for it. As a fellow southpaw, I would take the time to send him a PM & find out how much it costs to get exactly what I wanted (e.g. US model, Hunter version, left-handed, open sights, standard trigger). Especially for something as uncommon & special as a 375 H&H.

I just recently acquired this new Sako 90 Hunter in 375 H&H. This Hunter model in 375 is largely unavailable in the USA, so I was lucky to snag this one from a dealer who made a large international order from Sako. As you can see it has the straight stock with pancake cheek piece. I haven’t fired it or even mounted a scope yet, but I have cycled a few rounds through it and it feeds very well. While it isn’t a CRF rifle, it does have dual plunger ejectors, which eject the cartridges out at a near 90 degree angle. I do believe this will take care of the ejection problem they sometimes...

If you plan on hunting anything in the DG category with this rifle, I’d highly recommend moving up to a Trijicon or Leupold as a baseline for the sake of durability and reliability.

I’ve had too many problems with Vortex optics to the point that I wouldn’t trust them to watch cat videos on YouTube.

I’d also recommend shooting whichever hand (left or right) you truly prefer with a DG capable rifle. Creating the proper muscle memory through practice will pay dividends when the chips are down.

If you’re truly LH, it would be best to find a rifle that better suits your tendencies instead of trying to save money on a perceived deal. Lots of LH rifles on AH that could fill this role.

The Sako 85's are great, I have several of them. I've never used a Sako 90, so I cannot speak for them. I would also recommend reaching out to Eurooptic. I bet they can find you a left-handed model with iron sights.

Completely unfamiliar with that model, but I have a left hand AV in .375H&H. I’m working on a general purpose load for it; suitable for most things in North America around a 270 grain bullet. If your new model is anything like my older rifle, it will have a very good trigger and shoot well.

Just remember that it is push feed. It isn’t the CRF system of the 85. The 85 has been replaced with a double plunger system to take care of the 85’s extraction problems.

I can't disagree with this more.

I (and both my brothers) have major mixed dominance. I play Hockey, Golf and Lacrosse left handed, batted switch in Baseball and Softball, but write and throw right handed. I'm also very much a right handed shooter. One brother is almost completely lefty, but throws (and shoots) righty, the other brother is mixed, like I am.

It was a bit confusing for my grandfather when he was teaching me to shoot at around 6 years old, but once you know you are a righty that aims lefty, its not an issue, at all.

Completely relearning to shoot left handed(or right handed), especially when training for a DG hunt is just BEGGING for issues. It also doesn't solve any problem.

I prefer straight combs, with no cheek bulge, because I need to "lean" my head over that extra inch or so. A Montecarlo stock with a big cheek bulge tends to be extra meat that gets in the way. Again, once you know what's happening, a righty can aim lefty and shoot just as accurately as anyone out there.

I’m running a 1.5-4 Leupold on a Sako Finnbear .375 (it’s old but a tack driver). Considering changing to a fire dot type scope and maybe 1-6 power. I mainly want a Cape buffalo plus some plains game. Anybody that’s been have any thoughts?

All of mine have Leupold VX5 or VX6 1-5 or 1-6 respectively. My 375 just got changed to a 2-10
