Ruger No.1

How about 458 Lott?
Only if you enjoy getting beat up! The No.1 design doesn't really lend itself to the big kickers... in my experience. Had a .450-400 and it literally would give me recoil headache, the only rifle that ever has.
I would buy one in 7x65R or .348 Win if made. Currently have two, both easy kickers. The .275 Rigby Ltd Ed., and a SS walnut in .257 Roberts, also a ltd run. Neither are going anywhere soon.

I have only three ruger # 1,s now, a .223 light varmite, a 35 whelen and a .460 S&W. i like the 35 whelen most of all.

Here is my No.1 in 303 British. Took me a bit to find it!

I had one for a time, very good shooter. It loved 180 gr Sierra flat base Pro Hunter bullets and Win 760.

I bet that 303 is another kind of animal in a Ruger No.1. I think Tarbe has one in 30-40 krag. I like rimed cartridges in a No. 1.

He does and it is a sweetheart. I got looking for one in a 30-40 and wouldn’t you know @tarbe found one for me.

Beautiful little rifle but I can’t bring myself to shoot it no matter how hard Tim twists my arm! I ended up buying an 1895 to quench my Krag itch.

The ‘06 in a no.1 is an excellent choice! Actually just about anything in a No.1 is a great choice.

I haven’t seen this thread before. I always wanted a #1 so when I book a safari to SA I found one in 300 WM. The previous safari I only bow hunted and my PH used a stock protector and since it didn’t have a mark on it I put one on it.
The case is made from the Red Hartebeest I got on that trip.

One thing about No.1 guys, they can talk about No. 1’s all day long. They can be quirky but I’ve never owned one that I couldn’t get to shoot well. I just wish I owned more of them, especially a 7x57 and a 280AI. And a replacement in 300 H&H.

Chamber the No. 1 in .303 British, that is.
I had a No. 1 chambered for the 303 in hand at the LGS a while back and it is indeed a very huntable rifle

My understanding is most of the 303’s were exported out of the US to the European market but I haven’t been able to confirm that.

At the cabin in MO. Guess what came along?

Why yes, yes we can. I only have one and it's a .375H&H and I love it. It came to me a little bit bumped around and I love it. I never hesitate to take it anywhere I can. I can't do anything to it but lose it so I use it as often as I can. I like it, love it even. It's a nice design from the inside out. Oh well I guess I am just another No. 1 rambler...

Excellent, there are a few of us around here I believe! I have one in a 375 also and it is a beautiful rifle.

I know of/heard about a couple in both NZ and AU so they were reasonably available on this side of the pond.

I went back and found the reference that I was thinking of and it said that most were sent to Canada and Australia, not to Europe. Make sense as the 303 seems quite popular in both.
