Retirement

Daaang some of you guys retired young! How!? I’ll be working til I drop, ha!
@Certus
Mate we we born when life was simpler, hard work was normal not an option and if you wanted something extra you worked harder. Then again jobs were easier to get back then. You could actually think for yourself and common sense was naturally acquired. Today work health and safety tells you what you can do and you're not allowed to think for yourself.
Life was so much simpler back when I started work but you had to work harder and think smarter.

(1) I could not win in a Democratic primary. I do know some Democrat judges who are actually Republicans, and some former Republican judges that are actually Democrats. (2) I believe in Capitalism not Socialism. Pensions and group health are what employers offer to attract and keep employees. Those don’t align with the left, those align with a free market. A National Health systems (Medicare for All) align with the left.
Yes, I am very familiar with Benefits. However, things like corporate pensions & life long health insurance are loooooong gone for the most part. (i.e. 95%). For a reason, they aren't sustainable financially for the payor.

How many of you are retired? What age did you hang it up? I recently sold out my compaies to Private Equity and am having second thoughts about retirement -- this forum helps as does some other projects, but I dont think I am ready to hang it all up -- I'm 52 and feel like there's more to do.

I had a very nice plan, I was to retire from my profession at 55. No debt, find a part time job and enjoy.
Then the rules changed and the collective pension agreement was changed and minimum age to get any pension changed to 62.
Well, there's socialism. Jippi....
Reasoning was not enough people in this line of work. Didn't help, I have left the ships and will not return.

Nothing socialist about company pension plans for those who still get them. I have a small one. Cashed a couple of other DB plans out when they made offers I couldn’t refuse. I wish I had retirement medical but that disappeared a decade before the DB plans started to shut down.

Nobody said they were. Congratulations on your good fortune!

I did not call the them socialist. So maybe recant your reply.

“Socialism” mentioned in post #124 on 12/7 by @GuttormG in reference to changes in a collective pension agreement.

Ummm, I was actually supporting your earlier assertion that you are a capitalist not a socialist. Sorry if the reference was obtuse.

Everyone is wired different. I'm 66 with a successful business, not wired to hang out. Learned how to take multiple 2-3 week trips to africa alaska each year. 3 to 4 one week trips each year to see grand kids and monitor business via sat phone or emails. Sometimes a bit overwhelming, but i do more and see more than most of my retired friends. But one day every cowboy has to hang up his spurs. Party like a rock star even if its looking thru your Leupold.

No, sorry. Just a misunderstanding in all the flurry or replies. My apologies

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
