Recoil Reducers?

Kevin Robertson has a table in his book "Africa's Most Dangerous" which lists the recoil velocity of different big game calibers. Some of the slowest were the 465 and the 505 Gibbs. Some of the fastest were the 378 Weatherby and the 460. Seems to define a "push" from a boxers' "jab"?
