This is for you on here with more knowledge on the subject than I. I have a Remington model 700 in 7mm win mag. Can this be co converted into a 7prc or 300prc?
I am by no means an expert on this, but I am researching rechambering a 308 myself.
I don't think you can go to a 7prc as the case is shorter, and you definitely cannot go to a 300prc as the barrel is only .284, not .308. Rechambering is simply redoing the chamber, not re-drilling the entire barrel.
You can have it re-barreled by a gunsmith or go to a remage barrel that has a barrel nut like a savage, so you can tighten the barrel up against you, go gauge, and then tighten the barrel nut. You will need to perform some stock work on the barrel nut for this, though.
Maybe I should have specified. I plan to only use the action as it has a synthetic stock that I am not thrilled with and a thin profile barrel that would like to upgrade as well.
In that case, you can re-barrel the action to anything you want that is also long action and a magnum bolt face. 7prc and 300prc both fit that requirement.
300 PRC will be very tight unless you get a Wyatt’s extended magazine box. Which requires some machining on your receiver. If I’m going that route I’m getting a custom action. 7 PRC will fit.
If you want a 7 prc from a 7mm REM mag that would be pretty simple! Lots of good barrels to choose from.
But me personally? I would just get a new rifle, lots of affordable new options being made in 7prc, (tikka, bergara, etc just to name a few that are “affordable”)
By the time you get a barrel and spin it on and upgrade stock and trigger, you will see bergara will still be cheaper. But it could be a fun project for you to doctor up your rem700 into what you want!
Let’s us know what you do, I want to see the final product, or the new rifle…

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
