Popularity of 12 gauge shotguns

Magnumitis is not just an affliction for rifle shooters. We overload our shotguns, too. I think the British had it about right on loading 12 ga. shotguns.
Personally, I have shot more game/more variety of game with a one ounce load than any other. I could fill a pickup bed with the ducks and pheasants that fell to one ounce. It just doesn't take the heavy magnums as much as you think. Of course, I'm talking about lead loads, so the ducks were back when with 1 oz. And 1 oz of tungsten would kill any bird living at extended ranges if you want to go there. Plus, light 12 ga loads are square. It's hip to be square...

“The standard gauge is twelve, and the proportion of guns sold in America are running 90 per cent of twelve-gauges, and 10 per cent of ten-gauges. There are a few eight-gauges made, and a few sixteen and twenty, but the demand is constantly increasing in favor of the twelve.
The shooter should, therefore, choose a gun with which he can kill any feathered game. If he purchases a twelve-gauge, and has it properly bored and loads it rationally, he can do this.”

Many men make the mistake of buying a lightweight 20 gauge for their children or wife, and it absolutely beats them up.

A, well fit, 12 gauge is the most useful shotgun in the world, without a doubt.
I just put 20ga inserts in my 12ga for my kids, the gf wanted a trim light gun, so got her a 28ga.

Thanks truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, In October i have the opportunity of shooting a .423 Mauser rifle.
Congrats!

What are your further plans, in shooting sports?
My guess for India, the only option is to join shooting club?

To be honest i dont really have a plan for shooting sports. Only thing i can think of is moving to the US and getting a job so that i can get a green card. And freely own guns and go for a hunting trip to Africa.

Good plan, but there is also good hunting in USA.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
