I think they're blaming a system that failed to help her in any meaningful way when it was obvious to anyone with half a brain that there was something wrong with her (perhaps that's why some of you guys on here can't figure this one out). That doesn't excuse her actions. But this tragedy could have been prevented if more people helped her, or just gave a shit.

At some point we'll be right back here in the future because of those on the right who would rather scream about personal responsibility rather than improve a broken system. Do you think if you scream it loud enough it'll bring back those three kids?

In every major city the “homeless” are primarily mentally handicapped people. It’s the Left that is against sweeping them up and locking them up somewhere they can get help and or at least not push people in front of subway cars, stab them in the neck or light them on fire.

And the left isn’t opposed to locking them up due to compassion. It’s that doing so would impede with the homeless NGO grift.

Typical, blame something not the individual, she was crazy, she was in drugs, her friends didn’t see the signs, blah, blah, blah. For decades the left has been blaming everything else, except the individual. It all comes down to personal responsibilities/accountability.

The argument in her case is that she had undiagnosed bipolar disorder and post-partum psychosis and the evidence they apparently will call was that she was prescribed 20 different medications for her mental illness that interacted poorly and did not solve her problem.

I don't know if the defence will fly or not but that is what they are arguing. It has nothing remotely to do wth the normal stresses of life, you just chose to lie about that. No surprise. Women hating nutbars tend to be dishonest.

You also clearly don't know the first thing about the criminal justice system. People get charged and their lawyers try to find ways to beat the charge. But not guilty by reason of mental defect as a defence has been run by men in thousands of cases. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Trump is actually doing a great job in bringing our country together. In the past you were quite right on Bill 96 but the worm is turning.

I am not sure, however, that even if the labelling issue was not on the table that the deal would have gotten done anyways.

It was one of the sticking points.

The others are repealing provincial restrictions on alcohol and dairy products form the US. The national govt can’t get the provinces to agree. In the case of alcohol most provinces removed is wine and spirits form their shelves when the tariffs went into effect last year.

A bigger deal is a provision the US wants which restricts Canada’s ability to pursue individual trade agreements with other partners. I believe this is with China in mind.

There is also some disagreement about trucks manufactured in Canada being treated differently than other vehicles.

It can depending on the severity, the facts of the crime and the medical evidence. This defence has a shot to succeed.

For instance in this case, one of the diagnoses the defence is running up the flag pole is post-partum psychosis. Some experts define the post partum period as a number of weeks, and this case the murders took place 8 months after birth. Other experts will say that as long as the illness started in the first few weeks it can be considered post partum. Yet other experts will say PP can run up to a year after the birth.

Plenty to argue about, and for someone charged with three murders of her own children, not much to lose in running everything you can up the flag pole.

But whatever you think about mens rea and mental illness defences the idea that they are a product of feminism is bullshit, and the idea that women should not be able to vote or drive a car is equally stone age.

I can’t for the life of me understand why any American citizen would want Canada to give ground on the dairy issue. Currently I subsidize Canadian milk proportionately to the amount I buy. If American milk gets on the Canadian market the American tax payer will be subsidizing my milk.

Mental health issues are incredibly challenging and are influenced by so many internal, external and cultural factors. As a treated paranoid schizophrenic fellow once confided in me : “they have treated me but they can’t take away the fact that I have spoken to god”

I am just wondering where we are going as a society. I have known numerous people with some form of mental illness including bi-polar, and never considered them mentally incompetent.

I realize we need to take mental health seriously and one of the things I love about the younger generation is how conscious they are of mental health.

I am afraid to look it up, but have people who have been on drugs, or drunk ever been found mentally insane, I have seen more crazy shit from people who are blacked out. And if the person was diagnosed with a disorder and didnt take their medicine, are they still considered mentally incompetent. What is the difference between someone not taking their medicine and someone doing drugs, both made a decision that impacted their ability to make logical decisions. I realize this is a gray area, but feels like this is a slippery slope.
