NYT is reporting Luigi Mangione will be entering a Guilty plea today. This is of great comfort to me. I'm truly, truly worried of jury nullification with this guy. There have been too many people trying to devise plans to pressure jurors or somehow hang the jury. If this guy gets off, it will be open season on anyone the left doesn't like moving forward.

25 years or more in prison is a much better deal than allowing the potential for a jury-nullification of a leftist activist murdering innocent people.

It is disturbing how many people labeled him as some sort of hero. Even some here didn't seem to have a problem with the cold blooded murder.

In NY and CA and probably DC it doesn't matter if Feds do away with NFA requirements for the suppressors. It is also illegal to own them by state law. Heck, in CA it is even illegal to have threaded barrels on firearms.

I’m glad he’ll do time but the fact that ~30 years seems to be the going rate for murder these days is pretty disappointing.

No. Most of the industry-wide deregulation occurred during the Carter and Reagan administrations, except for major financial deregulation that occurred later in the 90s. Your own posting said that the de-regulation wasn’t a large component of that 1997 budgetary effort.

The 1990s economy expanded because of the Internet/WWW, information technology, and personal computer revolution. And then there’s that late 90s deregulation that Republicans were pushing, that ultimately led to a housing bubble, financial crisis, and the great recession; less than 10 years later. Kinda like some of that financial de-regulation during the Reagan administration led to a Savings and Loan crisis, ultimately resulting in a bail out.

Republicans love capitalism only when it suits them, when businesses go bad, they demand taxpayer bailouts…Privatizing the profits and socializing the risk.

This guy only got 20 years, and will probably only serve 12. So 30 years seems pretty good considering.

That’s some rewrite of history. The housing bubble occurred because the D’s in Congress were pushing loans for the Underemployed, that had no means of paying the note to get them in housing. The Republicans were not responsible for the crash the D’s were. In case you have forgotten, the Feds let Lehmann Bros crash and liquidate not exactly privatizing the profit and socializing the risk.

I was merely pointing out the double standards and hypocrisy involved. If a poor man gets killed, his family would be lucky if it made the 6 o’clock evening news so police could ask for witnesses and Assistance. A rich, C-suite exec is killed, and it makes the national news for a week straight, along with a nationwide manhunt. And here we are 2 years later still talking about it.

A death, is a death, is a death, as far as Im concerned. The guy that got killed was an executive of a large health insurance company, one that denied treatment at a higher rate than any other. Yet you do no mention/care nothing for those that suffered and died by decisions he made. To me, that type of behavior is also morally depraved (as @rookhawk put it)
