Several bosses have been arrested for contempt but it came after being given immunity and then still refusing to cooperate by pleading the fifth. Which is illegal. Sam Giancana, and Big Tuna both bosses from the Chicago outfit l. But I do not know of any that were imprisoned solely for pleading the fifth by itself.

1758 below from the DOJ manual.

A grant of immunity does not protect a person from a perjury charge if he or she testifies falsely. United States v. Apfelbaum, 445 U.S. 115, 126 (1980); United States v. Wong, 431 U.S. 174, 178 (1977). The immunity grant means that immunized testimony cannot be used to prove that a previous sworn statement was false. Kastigar v. United States, 406 U.S. 441 (1972). 18 U.S.C. § 6002. Thus, if two sworn statements are irreconcilable and one was made after an immunity grant, the government must prove that the one given under the immunity grant was the false one. The government may prove immunized testimony is false by using other immunized testimony from the same grant of immunity "so long as that testimony conforms to otherwise applicable rules of evidence." Apfelbaum, 445 U.S. at 131.

Isn’t the Fauci pardon only valid for federal charges. Isn’t he still eligible to be charged by a state ? If so pleading the 5th should be allowed.

Of course I’m playing the Devils Advocate. Not defending the Devils actions.

If anyone remembers 1988.
Pan Am flight 103- Lockerbie
A sad ending caused by Libyan terrorists and a suitcase bomb, but a brilliant case of forensic investigation from those that figured it out.

Another 1988 disaster when the U.S Navy accidentally shot down an Iranian airliner.

Oopsy.

I struggle to picture this group of drinking feminists sitting "spellbound" at your lecture.

Having a german exchange student at hand was a cool coincidence.

But for future reference, not "all" of the brown shirts were executed, they had perhaps 2 million members and maybe 200 or so were executed.

Rohm did not found the SA, Hitler did, as a personal body guard for beer hall politics. The SA was founded in 1921, and Rohm did not become leader until a decade later. Rohm was around in the early days and involved in the beer hall Putsch, but by no means was he its founder or leader at that point. By the time of the failed Putsch I am sure you will recall that a fellow named Goering commanded the SA. In fact you will recall Rohm pissed off to Boliva to work as a mercenary for a number of years in there. In the early days of the SA Rohm was more of a Freikorps guy, and they eventually got folded into the SA.

I could go on, but why bother.

Oh...and Hitler never promised a free beetle to every German. I think "Josh" needs some remedial history about his homeland.
But it was an entertaining story, I think he missed his calling as a writer. I've never heard someone trying to equate the SA to ANTIFA before, that's a new one even for me.

Hmmm. I already brought up this incident in my reply to you. It is the only one where we have accidently shot down an airliner. We investigated it, admitted our responsibility to the world, and paid reparations to the families. It also happened in a war zone during a naval conflict.

So your point is what exactly? What I would suggest a logical person should take from it is this country's transparency with regard to such incidents and the silliness of believing the looney toons who claim we deviously and impossibly hid something with respect to the TWA disaster.

No point. 1988 was a bad year for airline deaths regardless of fault. While remembering the Lockerbie incident the Iranian airliner also popped into memory from the same year.
I have a somewhat morbid fascination of airline disasters, and the intensive investigations that goes into solving the cause of the crash

I could be wrong. 1988 was a while back, buy didn't the ship warn the plane that they were approaching a US Naval vessel and to alter their course? As per usual with extremists, they ignored the warning. If that is what happened, could there have been any other ending?

Trump: "We are going to beat the f****** s*** out of them."

For the love of all... do it or shut up already.
Well, the Iranians think that he will TACO, so now they are escalating on their own. We started hitting them again, time will tell.

I'm sure the Iranians wish that TACO was real. But after killing their top leadership and the destruction of most of their military, I suspect they know better.

As far as their swaggering and stating that, "no American soldier will go home alive." Or that Iran will.never respond to force, it reminds me of another Muslim leader saying that if the US invaded, "it will be the mother of all battles." That was Saddam Hussein, remember him? These leaders say a lot of outlandish things. I think it largely reflects fear. Fear of the US and fear of their own people. No one wants to die with a rope around their necks.

I completely agree. And frankly, when he spouts that crap, that's exactly how it comes across.

Just because they don't like you, or support the end of America, or support Hamas or any other despicable organization doesn't make them any less civilians.
I’m not an expert in international law but I suspect that those protections end if the civilians are actively housing/harboring combatants and/or weapons.

Israel has struck targets that would normally be off limits but became legitimate targets because Hamas and their supporters in the civilian population don’t care about their own people’s lives and are willing to use any and everything they can. Hamas hides weapons in hospitals and leaders in refugee camps. What is Israel to do?

Obviously there is a limit. The Israelis cannot just vaporize Gaza but at the same time they have to fight to win and the scales are always going to be tipped towards one’s own people.

Reading that Iran called off some public executions today because there started to be an uprising.

Judging from online accounts there seems to be growing dissent among the population. What I mean by that there seemed to be more fear, and kind of a wait and see approach, but now seems like they are getting antsy. I am guessing we will start to see more in the news in the next week or so.

I’m speculating but I wonder if that could be the reason for Trump hemming and hawing, waiting for something to kick off internally. I assume he’d have intelligence about such a thing. Probably even has assets in the region.

OTOH, that may just be an optimistic read. I’d like to hope that he has something planned.

Depends on their level of support and the activities of "support."

Not for Congress.

My point was Fauci may face State charges or Civil charge and it would have been malpractice for his attorneys to allow him to respond.

“State Attorney General Prosecution
    • State Jurisdiction: A federal presidential pardon (such as the preemptive one issued by President Biden) applies strictly to federal crimes and has no direct legal power to block state-level criminal charges. [1, 2]
    • State Probes: State attorneys general (such as in Florida) have initiated inquiries or probes into his official actions. [1, 2]
    • Supremacy Clause Immunity: Under constitutional doctrines like Supremacy Clause immunity (In re Neagle), a state trying to prosecute a federal official must prove the official acted outside the scope of their lawful federal authority or performed actions that were not reasonably necessary and proper to their duties. If a state brings charges, federal courts can review whether this immunity shields the federal employee. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Civil Charges from Individuals or Family Members
    • No Criminal Shield for Civil Suits: A criminal pardon does not grant immunity from civil liability or tort claims. [1]
    • Civil Lawsuits: Private citizens, including grieving family members who believe they suffered harm due to federal public health mandates, recommendations, or policies, retain the legal right to file civil suits in court.[1]
    • Legal Hurdles: While private parties can file civil actions, plaintiffs face high legal hurdles, including overcoming federal official immunity doctrines and proving direct causation between specific policy decisions and individual damages. “
