Spain closes airspace to US planes taking part in war on Iran

Spain has barred US military aircraft involved in strikes on Iran from using its airspace, expanding earlier restrictions on access to jointly operated bases, Defence Minister Margarita Robles says.

“We don’t authorise either the use of military bases or the use of airspace for actions related to the war in Iran,” she told reporters in Madrid.

The move forces US military aircraft to reroute although emergency flights remain exempt.

Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo said the decision reflects Spain’s refusal to back a war launched unilaterally and “against international law”.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has repeatedly criticised the US-Israeli war while Trump has threatened trade retaliation.

Not only Spain, France and Italy also did.

Now, don´t shoot me, it doesn´t mean I personally agree with it.

Last week I read the UK had 12 serviceable ships at the ready. The UK sent well over 100 to the Falklands.

It would be inconceivable to Thatcher the lack of assets available to the UK if a Falkland situation arose today.
A GySgt of mine trained with the Royal Marines when he was with 2nd Recon in the 80’s. He loved to tell this story.

After some particularly hard night training, him and the Brit’s were telling stories over beers about this and that during Falkland Islands war.

“What falkin’ islands? Which ones?” He asked.

They laughed. “No, no.. the Falkland Islands.”

“Yea, I get it. But which falkin’ islands? The British Virgin falkin’ islands? The Galapagos falkin’ islands? Easter falkin’ island? Where are the falkin’ islands located at?”

Probably not a true story. But still funny.

When I was coming up, if someone complained about something, they were often required to suggest an alternative. Complaining without offering another way to do things was considered whining.

So @Pondoro, please tell us all, in your opinion, what precisely should be done with Iran?

You had the sensible option to make an agreement or deal as he loves to call it.. Then you went head on with Israel and attacked them..thus making a global energy crisis..

And a furious iranian regime..hellbent on striking back..

I think the only viable option is to have Israel to stand down and stop the attacks..implement a ceasefire and start negotiating with Iran..perhaps through Pakistan..

Trump need to control Israel and force them to stop bombing..

The negotiations must also be on getting control of whatever enriched uranium they posess and pressure them to terminate whatever nuclear program they have through IAEA inspections..

Otherwise you risk being in the famous quagmire..militarily speaking.. The 7 islands in Hormuz are heavily fortified and the long persian golf coast will be almost impossible to control. They probably have mobile missile launch capabilities along the coast..

A prolonged war spells global energy crisis and also political pressure within USA..

The idea of sending in special forces to secure the uranium seems futile..where is it..? Iran is the size of Spain, France and italy together..

So as its end of month our fuel prices for the coming month got announced....they are dropping duty and vat through June to help....but still gone up considerably....diesel equivalent of usd 6 for a usa gallon....petrol usd 5.40 to usa gallon...diesel gone up a LOT more than petrol.....if duty etc hadn't been removed on diesel it would have been around usd 8 to a usa gallon....

Was surprised at Italy doing it....Spain not at all with the government there....France :E Shrug: the classic gallic shrug. :E Big Grin:

Deal, sorry the Iranians will cheat. Obama dropped them a plane load of cash, and what did they do with it, fund more terrorists. The Iranian Government wants to live in the Stone Age, I say we bomb them into the Stone Age. Carter should have done this 47 years ago. Except those living on the government tit want the current Iranian government gone.

And by way, all you Europeans not letting the US use the bases that we pay for, it might be time to see how much removing that investment from your local economies works out. Oh, I forgot the USA has plenty of Oil & Gas. I guess you will have to go back to paying Gasprom.

Its exactly the same here in Sweden, the difference between diesel and petrol that is, petrol has risen like 30-40 cents per litre since the war started but diesel has risen almost double. Unfortunately we have one petrol car and one diesel

Didn’t Obama negotiate. Wasn’t he even blackmailed into sending billions. Allowing Iran to continue with nuclear and support regional terrorism.

Didn’t Biden negotiate. Weren’t they both lied to regarding nuclear weapons. How do you negotiate with a country that lies. Do you just kick the can down the road until Iran is like North Korea and has reached the event horizon.

Israel has said numerous times that Iran will never get a nuclear bomb. The world generally takes Israel at their word. If never means never then all options are on the table including Israel’s nuclear weapons. Iran could basically destroy Israel with two nuclear weapons. One in Tel Aviv and one in Haifa. Add a second to Tel Aviv and one to Dimona and Israel is no more. Is any country really going to tell Israel what to do in that scenario. Is Israel really going to set back and get destroyed without launching 100+ nukes of their own. The SoH seem like a minor obstacle when compared to the ME being turned to glass and radiation circling the sphere.

Removing the uranium from the equation through physical removal or destruction seems to be Trumps only original goal still on the board. Iranian leadership America can work with and opening Schrödinger’s Strait (it’s either open or it’s not) seem to be distant secondary goals Trump May choose to walk away from but probably won’t.

In no way am I saying America walking away is optimal for the world but if the world doesn’t care to help, it’s an option the world should prepare for. Screaming you broke it you fix it will fall on deaf ears.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation sues me for a Ballroom that is under budget, ahead of schedule, being built at no cost to the Taxpayer, and will be the finest Building of its kind anywhere in the World. I then get sued by them over the renovation of the dilapidated and structurally unsound former Kennedy Center, now, The Trump Kennedy Center (A show of Bipartisan Unity, a Republican and Democrat President!), where all I am doing is fixing, cleaning, running, and “sprucing up” a terribly maintained, for many years, Building, but a Building of potentially great importance. Yet, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a Radical Left Group of Lunatics whose funding was stopped by Congress in 2005, is not suing the Federal Reserve for a Building which has been decimated and destroyed, inside and out, by an incompetent and possibly corrupt Fed Chairman. The once magnificent Building is BILLIONS over budget, may never be completed, and may never open. All of the beautiful walls inside have been ripped down, never to be built again, but the National “Trust” for Historic Preservation never did anything about it! Or, have they sued on Governor Gavin Newscum’s “RAILROAD TO NOWHERE” in California that is BILLIONS over Budget and, probably, will never open or be used. So, the White House Ballroom, and The Trump Kennedy Center, which are under budget, ahead of schedule, and will be among the most magnificent Buildings of their kind anywhere in the World, gets sued by a group that was cut off by Government years ago, but all of the many DISASTERS in our Country are left alone to die. I think Trump is more worried about the mid terms than what Europe thinks or even the outcome of his excursion into Iran.

I filled my truck with gasoline this morning and paid $3.39US per gallon for regular. That's up some from the last time but not horrendous.
As far as negotiating with Iran, that was what went on for months with Iran just stalling for time to build several nukes and we now know they have missiles with a 4000 km range. Not conducive to a warm fuzzy feeling.

Weakening and replacing the dollar more than likely means a new global superpower that doesn’t have other nations and their people’s best interests in mind. (China)
I apologize in advance if I'm reading this incorrectly.

Are you saying that the United States today has other nations and their people's best interests in mind? That was certainly not what the President (and SecDef and others) said when the current fracas began.

If so, that would come as a surprise to many.

Iranian parliament approves toll charges for ships transiting the strait of Hormuz.
I've heard $2 million a ship
The annoying fact about this, probably one of many, is that the shipping lanes are in Oman's territorial waters, not Iran.

Has there ever been serious discussion of a canal to bypass the strait of Hormuz? It would till be reachable by longer range weapons but might belief easily defended. I’m sure smarter minds have thought about it, I would be interested to know what the discussion has been like.

Our (US) relations with the Jewish world go back to the Revolutionary War. Haym Salomon gave George Washington money for arms, uniforms, boots and ammunition just prior to the crossing of the Delaware. Defeat of the Hessian mercenaries perhaps would not have occurred without his help. Israel as a nation not only did not exist then, but most theologians at that time believed that Israel as a physical nation would probably never be reconstituted. So where did Salomon's motivation come from? After the battle with the Hessians, Salomon went to Europe and petitioned his Jewish friends and fellow merchants for funds to help the Colonies in their fight to throw off England. They gave and he delivered. Then, as Cornwallis was making his final rally, Washington was told that the Continental Congress was flat broke. He said, "Bring me Haym Salomon." Salomon gave all he had--as had all the others who signed the Declaration of Independence. Those funds, and the ammunition they acquired (along with a fleet of French ships who bottled in Cornwallis--at a cost that created the French Revolution!) achieved our freedom and establishment as a nation.
Washington asked Salomon how he could ever repay him....Salomon's reply--"remember the Jewish people." Washington acted upon that and we have placed the Star of David on every dollar bill. Turn one over, and to the right, just above the eagle is a starburst with the dots clearly showing the Star of David. I also took note that the buttons on my grandfather's WWI uniform--on his long sleeved shirt, had the Star of David on each button. We have a long positive connection with the Jews extending from our fight for freedom to the establishment of Israel as a country. I believe God has blessed us in return for it.
Contrast that history with our nations interactions with Islam--negative, from being enslaved, killed, or ransomed on the high seas to our first foreign battle--on the shores of Tripoli. Islam has NO contribution to either our, or any other western nations' civilization, except to oppose, tear down and attempt to overthrow and replace with Sharia rule. There is more at stake in the Middle East than our interests financially or militarily. Yes, we do remember our friends! And we have remembered our friends in Europe at great cost in lives and treasure, if they will take the time to reflect.
Anyone in a Western Civilization should take stock of what the world would look like absent the United States. Seriously, are ANY of them ready to take on China or bad actors coming to a shore near them, soon....

If you’re concerned about the ballroom you evidently haven’t seen the news on the new Presidential Library yet. :sneaky:

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
