It is pretty simple. Map exercises are not war plans. In staff college we fought at the operational level all over Kansas and Colorado. But there is no corresponding war plan.

Has anyone heard why Thule Air Base with the world’s northern most deep water harbor. Isn’t enough to keep the arctic sea lanes open. Launch missiles etc etc.

We could easily get mining rights to rare minerals.

Which is why I put the caution on the source. Their international reporting is typically factual, however their animus toward this administration has been clear from the start.

During WWII we and the British occupied large areas of Europe and North Africa at the behest of exiled governments. Morocco and Tunisia are the closest analogy to Greenland. We also were given extensive basing rights in Greenland during the Cold War which was also the case across much of Western Europe. None of that has anything to do with Danish sovereignty anymore than British, German, or French sovereignty.

To occupy Greenland would be an act of war against a fellow NATO member. That action would destroy the alliance. The senate has recently passed into law that any withdrawal from NATO would require 2/3 senate approval. An action that accomplished the same thing or led to a state of war with the alliance would require, at least to my mind, the same Senate approval thus making such an order illegal.

Finally, we still have the same basing rights we have always had in Greenland but have not exercised since the end of the Cold War. We can, in coordination with the Danes, exercise any Alliance related defensive measures the President and the SECDEF deem appropriate.

Finally, Trump can pay each inhabitant of Greenland a mil each. I am sure they would be grateful. Such bribery would in no way affect sovereignty. This whole bit of international theater is unworthy of this country.

Did some digging, and the native Greenland population does have the right of self-determination and could vote to no longer be under Danish sovereignty.

Do you think Trump understands the real size of Greenland? A lot of people don't. On a flat map, Greenland looks huge due to "Mercator projection."

The Size Distortion

• Polar Stretch: To keep shapes intact near the poles, the Mercator projection has to stretch the area dramatically, causing landmasses like Greenland and Antarctica to look enormous compared to their actual size.
• Greenland vs. Africa: On a Mercator map, Greenland appears nearly as large as Africa, but in reality, Africa is about 14 times bigger.

What's the Real Size?

• Greenland's actual area is around 2.16 million sq km (836,330 sq miles).
• It's about the size of Saudi Arabia or three times the size of Texas

Every empire in the past has had their reserve currency replaced. Primarily due to debt, borrowing, printing money.

But Also from overreaching and getting too big for their britches. Thinking military power alone makes right. Other countries, not trusting those empires any longer started making side deals and alliances. Then no longer trusted that country so hedged their bets and started buying different currencies and using different currencies. Which is already happening to the dollar.

Everyone of those example Empires had good excuses and reasoning to do what they did, but it just escalated the replacement of their currency worldwide and they never came back from it.

Greece, Dutch, Spain, England all thought their currency could never be replaced, and we seem to be in the same trajectory as everyone of those prior empires.

Its been in place for 4 days, but Iran is using jammers. Not a lot of information is getting out but some reports are over 10,000 protesters are dead.

That could be misinformation by the regime to try to get people to stop protesting but who knows.

That is what I understand was the reason to pay citizens of Greenland. I suppose it would be buying votes.

It does seem ridiculous that we don't build/maintain bases there of we still have those rights.

Or is this all a ploy to get Denmark to build and maintain better bases? Or greater Nato?
