Ordered my LAST African Safari rifle at DSC this year...

Are you still going to have it for your hunt this year?
Not sure. My dance card for international travel is getting full already. I might push it to 2026, the only thing I have planned so far is a week in Costa Rico for partner's birthday in March.

I love everything about this story. Have you considered getting a 20 bore set of barrels? It would be wonderful for Stateside practice and it would be great for sandgrouse, francs, and guineas on safari.

My biggest regret is I’ve never had a double rifle with shotgun barrels. That means I can’t bird hunt in Africa due to me being the mule for everyone else in the family’s guns. A sand grouse shoot at sunset is about the finest wing shooting I’ve ever known. I wish the experience on you as well.

At DSC I went ahead and ordered a set of 20ga barrels for my Krieghoff. Is it going to be the best shooting shotgun in the world?? No. Will it give me cheap trigger time with my double?? Yes.

I bought my rifle used, so I’ll still be well under the cost of a new double from any of the suitable makers.

I thought about it. I think the shotgun would be way too heavy due to the heavy-duty action. Not to mention for the cost one can buy a very nice shotgun.
Same thoughts. I will be getting a Beretta Silver Pigeon 3, 20 gauge, 28 inch barrels. Not up market I know, but it really feels good.

I have two friends, Tanks and a fellow here in Africa waiting for their Shikaris, I hope they come through quickly. It would be great to read a field report.

Congratulations.
Will be a wonderful rifle.
Jerome is a great guy, he built my VC .470 that is listed here for sale.

Congrats! Was hoping you'd have in hand by now. Hopefully soon. For sure post pictures once you have it and shot it.

All done except for bluing and engraving. The parts are taken off prior to polishing the wood (pins, triggers etc.). I am next in line for the engraver. Love the Walnut.

Fantastic. Very exciting to see the different stages along the way.

That is going to be one beautiful rifle when all finished

Wow! @Tanks that walnut is beyond spectacular. What a thing to look forward to, and then going on a safari with.
Agreed, those darker tones are a bit more subdued and way classier

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
