I washed a kitten in such a basin. My daughter's tutor wanted a smoky kitty, a friend found a suitable one, she lived in a machine shop and slept in a box with sand. The cat and the new owner were happy, and the hands healed in a couple of weeks.

Accomplish the same thing with a sock and a bar of soap. Just not as classy. Learned that in the service. Something to do with blanket parties.
