It's blasphemy to put anything other than a touch of season on a properly cooked medium rare (warm on the inside) steak.

That's kind of what I heard happened with the Transcontinental RR in the US. Since each RR company got paid by the amount of track that they laid they bypassed each other by quite a few miles before they went back to connect up at Promontory Point in Utah.
